plays in PowerDVD not in set top player ?

I have completed a DVD and it plays fine in PowerDVD but not on my set top player. The player is Samsung S-221. It is supposed to be compatible with DVD+R. Here is what I did. Tell me where I went wrong.....

1. All files used are mpeg2 and PCM from Vegas 4.0B. DVDA is 1.0B.

2. I use HP 200i-external with firewire. Media type is Verbatim video disc.
(the Hp DVD+R writers are supposed to write DVD-Rom identification to DVD+R discs
by default). The firmware is 1.36 for the burner. It has a later one but doesn't appear to be essential to this problem at all.

3. Approx. length (to get past any "De-Icing" problem) is 18 minutes. The chosen bitrate in the "Optimize" dialogue in DVDA was set at 8,000. All video was "From project". Audio was PCM.

4. All DVDA rendering and preparing dialogues show it was successful. It was burned at 1X speed. The burner has max of 2.4X but this is not available on the drop down menu options for speed.

So....is there a problem in the "Lead-In" section of the DVD-disc? I noticed that there isn't any "Book type" settings to enhance compatibility in DVDA or in the HP burner. Is this where you can use the "Compatibity settings" in the HP settings mode 1 and mode 2 to help this problem go away...?

Anyone who is using DVDA and HP 200i-external would sure be welcome to tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Thanks for all your suggestions, CRH

I'm having the same problem with my Pioneer 105 external burner. DVD plays well in PowerDVD but not in my set top player. I guess it's back to the droawing board. If I find out something I'll post it.

It's a little weird that 2.4x isn't available in the dropdown, isn't it?
I've got an HP 300i, and I've certainly had some trouble burning DVDs. Sometimes the drive just behaves so randomly - a) sometimes DVDA doesn't recognize a disk is in the drive, and the speed downdown is greyed out b) sometimes the dropdown works, but there isn't anything in it, c) sometimes the slower speeds are available, d) sometimes all speeds are available. Rebooting the computer usually sorts things out. I'm not sure its DVDA's problem, because usually when it has issues, Windows has recognized the disc inserted as the wrong type.

I've burned several DVDs, but unfortunately I've only been able to try them in other computers, never on a set top player before - now you've got me worried. Windows Media Player often has trouble with the discs I've burned, but Power DVD usually works, especially after a reboot.

Very flaky stuff this DVD burning.

I've tried burning a DVD+RW first for my last project, before sacrificing a DVD+R. However the DVD+RW produced didn't play properly in either WMP or PowerDVD when it was inserted into my DVD-ROM drive - there was short pause every second - not too noticeable in fast moving video, but very noticeable in some panning on stills I had. Then I put it back in the HP 300i and things were fine.
Then I tried burning a DVD+R and it worked in both drives fine. It was my first time using 4x speed media, and the 4x (actually 3.9x) choice was available in the dropdown - nice - it burned a full DVD in 12 minutes. Yet to try it on a set top player though.

It all just seems so random, I never know what to expect :-(
