Please Help

Im the somewhat proud owner of a 60GB Sony HD AVCHD Handycam and the Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum which Ive owned since 2008.

Ive just started playing around with my equipment again after its sat in the corner for a year or so.

My big issue is that after shooting really high quality HD footage and then importing it via PMB into Vegas MS , rendering it and then saving it the film quality is terrible.

Can anyone, please explain whats happening here or what I should be doing.

Im tearing my hair out! Well whats left of it.

"Vegas MS , rendering it and then"

You've left a huge, gaping black hole there. There are literally thousands of choices that can be made for rendering, some give good results, some give mediocre results that may not be useful, and many give awful results.

Tell us two things. First, what have you been doing for rendering, which file type, which template, what if any custom settings are you using. Second, what is your intended output, how do you plan to watch it, on what devices.

After that we can advise you on the best ways to achieve your goal.

Also the fact that VMS 8 doesn't support HD so how (and to what format) are you importing your video?

Thanks for getting back to me,

Output- I'd like to be able to burn dvd's both PAL and NTSC for playback in both the US and the UK, Id also like to be able to upload to Vimeo etc. I'm interested in keeping the highest quality possible.

After reading your reply Ive just discovered the Template drop down ( I'm very new at this) and was downloading on the default setting, which of course wasn't helping.

Ive been using Windows Media 9 as the file type.

Which settings would be best?

Thanks

For vimeo you export like this
http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

For DVDs, you use either the PAL or the NTSC widescreen template for video, and AC3 for audio. Then you bring the video and audio separately into DVD Architect, and the app will burn a DVD for you.

Hi MSmart

I remember now, when I purchased Vegas 8 Platinum there weren't to many HD TV's around and so it didn't really matter that it wasn't HD.

I'm importing the HD files through Picture Motion Browser via drag and drop to the time line.

Thanks

Thanks Everyone,

I feel that I'm making some progress here and getting somewhere near the results that I'm looking for.
