Please Help. Can't read/render MP3

OK, I'm sure this is all related to the licensing issues related to license migration, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

1-I was editting an MP3 in vegas 4e when I decided I could do it better in Soundforge 7a.
2-Soundforge 7a wouldn't encode an MP3 saying my trial number of MP3 encodes had expired.
3- I re-installed Soundforge 7a and re-registered the MP3 lisence, now it will read/render MP3 files.
4- I go back to Vegas 4e and it won't recognize MP3 files, AT ALL!!!

I've tried every single one of the migration tool buttons in the Utilities folder to no avail.

Really guys, SoFo had everything working so extremely well. Now Sony has come in and MUCKED everything up. I don't have the time to be fussing with this stuff. How do I fix it?

Thanx

Bill, when you installed the Vegas 5 updates, did you use the default paths for installing Forge? If not, and you crossed the folders, or messed with their locations, it kills one or the other. If I remember right, this is due to a licensing issue that Sonic Foundry HAD, and now Sony HAS, but they are different licensings, and so couldn't be crossed. There were a few earlier posts on this, and I think there is even an FAQ on it.

Spot...

Thanx for the input. Yeah, I'm aware of the previous problem. In fact, when I first downloaded SF7, I did mess with the default install folders. After I lost all of my MPEG access, I came across the threads advising against cross installations. I, then, uninstalled and re-installed everything, Vegas4 and SF7. I thought everything was fixed. NOW, this MP3 problem crops up. The only thing I haven't done is re-install Vegas4. Guess that's my next step. My workaround is to export from SF7 in .wav, for import into V4. *sigh*

I'm afraid I may be in some kind of endless do-loop that will always disable something in the galaxy of SoFo products I have. This is the reason I hate PREMIERE so much, because of this kind of software glitches.

Good thing airplanes aren't built to the same standards as software.
