Hi...okay im trying to finish my film before finals are
over and im runningot problems..any help would be
appreciated..

1. First ive been using vegas video 2.0 for the most part
of it and capturing with my dv camera and the avi(s) look
great. I was running win98.

2. I wanted to use 2.0d and the capture tool beause my old
capture tool didnt allow me to print to tape...Anyway I
just upgraded to win98se and thought that would solve my
problems...BUT

3. Now when I play my clips just in windows media 7 they
all look like crap, well not crap, jsut not as bad. Also
when im trying to print to tape with video capture (vegas)
its aweful..it drops frames all over the place....

4. Also, when I was using win98 and I rendered the final
project using ntsc dv and dv resolution it looked great,
but now when i do it no matter what I render it in it
always skips....

5. What can I do? Whats wrong :)

email me would be faster because im always checking..but a
post would be fine too I guess..

by the way..i am using a PIII 500/256 ram
coonsch@mnstate.edu

Thanx :)

I don't know why upgrading to Win98se screwed things up for
you, but from your description it sounds like your hard
drive isn't keeping up. Can you post more info?

What are you upgrading from?

What kind of hard drive are you editing/playing/capturing
with? What speed?

I re-read your post and I see that you were running Win98
and upgraded to Win98se. Sorry about that.

One more question though, can you describe what you mean
about the videos looking bad when you play them in Media
Player 7?

thanx for the reply..

first, about windows media...back in win98 after I captured
an vi from my dv camera I could see teh quality in it and
it rarely skipped. Now, with 98se when I watch the same
avi's they skip and appear more pixelated then before.
(however when I watch them on another comp on the network
with win98 they look fine) Anyway, I just tried to watch
the finish project inside of vegas video (through the
preview) and the audio would skip, before in 98 it was nice
and smooth.

I upgraded to 98se because I wanted to use the video
capture in vegas video and upgrade to 2.0d (which I havent
yet) too bad though because the print to tape on the
capture software actually took up the whoel screen (it
didnt work, it dropped frames all over) but if it would
work, it would look great...

Im not sure about my hd speed...its 2yrs old (a dell) ill
investigate. What other info can I provide you with? I
dont want to have to go back to win98, because then ill
have to use my tv out mode with my video card and then it
never takes up the whole screen and doesnt look nearly as
nice, but it would be my only option.

anyway. i always check my email in case you reply
there..thanx for the help :)

From the sounds of what you are experiencing (this is just
a guess) the upgrade to 98SE may have done some damage in
the codec category.I say this because you are able to play
the same .avi files properly on another computer. You may
want to update to the latest verison of DX8 as well as the
DV update for DX. Generally the most common issues when
printing to tape with a OHCI IEEE 1394 capture card are

1) DMA is not enabled on the hard drive.
2) IRQ conflicts
3) not using the latest drivers for the chipset on the
motherboard
4) not loading the appropriate Microsoft drivers for the
capture card. There is an OHCI troubleshooting document on
our web site on the Vegas Video page under products if you
click on the demo download.

DaveP...thanx!!You jsut saved my life.. DMA wasnt
checked..I completely forgot..when I uped it to 98se I
totally didnt even think of DMA..wow, the print to tape
wouldnt even work and now its perfect..thankx a million man
I I appreciate it :)
