Please help with graphics card "bait & switch"

I ordered a laptop for using as a field monitor and DVR using Adobe's OnLocation (DV Rack) with the Quadro FX 2500M graphics card. At the last moment the builder says the Quadro is not available (or he can't afford it) and can only offer the NVidia 7950GTX or dual 7950 GTX SLI. Can anyone please help me decide whether or not to accept either one of these alternatives?

quadro is a heavy duty work card & the 7950 is a gamers card. How much of a discount they giving you? There's normally a big price difference but i'm not sure with laptop versions. but i think the new versions of the quadro are the 5xxx series so the 7950 may be better.

do they have a laptop option in which the 7950 is included to compare prices?

Quadro tends to have poorer drivers with regard to directx performance. So you might have a problem, YMMV. OpenGL is where quadro is a benefit. I'd say the 7950 would be preferable, even if you own the Boris plug-ins for Vegas that do employ OpenGL for their FX, afaik.

Some games, Linux apps and many 3D animation apps are OpenGL oriented. Multimedia apps are more geared to riding the directx horse.
