"And if you're woried about noise, well they'll shortly be a PC case available that uses heatpipes and the case as the heatsink, meaning NO fans at all."

I know two engineers that use this box in their protools studios. It's the coolest and quietest running machine I've ever seen, plus it's probably the smallest. I'm sure it would run Vegas great because one of the engineers has tested Premiere with no problems.

I don't know why they haven't incorpoated reversed thermocouples to cool the processor like they used in the Apollo spacecraft. I guess it's
too simple an answer or Borg-Warner has the patents locked up.

JohnnyRoy, I'm getting to this party late, but the "Editing is all Mac based" video was the funniest thing I've seen since the Saturday Night Live Mac commercial "The Power to Crush the Other Kids"

SCErwin,

How's New York treating you?

Also have you discovered the Donnel Media Library? It's a NY public library, but has an awesome film collection. Lots of foreign films too. It's right across from the Museum of Modern Art. The Library for the Performing Arts is very good too it's has lot of Film books.

The main Brooklyn library has a very good film book collection as well.

like premiere's infamous "black screen with red x" that you see anytime something's not rendered.

Even worse... Speed Razor 3x would stop playing when it came to an unrendered section... I remember getting a "not rendered" box as it would still play through the effect and thinking wow.. at least it plays, just giving me an unrendered screen. When I made the move to Vegas, I couldn't believe that it would just drop frames but still play the full effect... fabulicious! When I opened up FCP on my Powerbook and it wouldn't even play text without rendering I felt as though I had time traveled back 3 years to before Vegas.

We're spoiled and take it for granted most times... I'd love to see one of those big inflatable boxing or jousting rings at NAB.. then all of the NLE'ers could go at it with the competition!

David, Yea, I downloaded it a while ago to send to a friend of mine who was going to sell his brand new PC because all the recording studios he had been to used ProTools and told him he need a Mac to run it. I told him ProTools would run perfectly fine on his new PC and all the studios needed was an education.

I crack up laughing every time I watch it. It’s just too funny.

Deja vu!

My first AVID Media Composer in 1996 was Mac-based. I hated it. I learned to loath editing. I did most of my editing on the BetaSP/BVE 910 and digitized the rough cuts. I can relate to the poor bastard in the very amusing video I just downloaded. I hated Mac 8 years ago and I am sure I would hate it now.

Last night I had the strangest dream ....

Sony did an "Apple" to Apple -

bought it and discontinued it.

I had that dream too Peter, but then it turned into a nightmare, a certain recently departed soul was forced back here.
