Plug in for tiff image support

crooks wrote on 8/25/2004, 6:58 PM
Ok..... I got my new AMD 64 3200 computer.... load Vegas 4.0, and now it wont support tiff still images. It worked fine on my old AMD athlon 1700; support for png, jpeg, tiff, and many other still image formats. I get an error that there is a plug-in missing for tiff support...... where could this have gone?

Thanks

Jesse

You need to install Quicktime. When you run the installer, pick "Custom" and then pick EVERYTHING - especiallly the authoring components.

No. You have to install it from Apple. Yes, it is compatible - Vegas 5 requires QT 6.0 or higher. Just MAKE SURE you install the authoring components.

BTW, other formats are better and faster to use in Vegas. Look at PNG or JPG or PSD for example.

Got it going... Thanks a bunch. I use tiffs cuz that is how they are scanned for me ( I should look into png..... any quality difference?), and I just copy them from the CD...... In my current project i am using 100+ stills, so converting them in Adobe PS would take some time. But would it make a significant difference?

Edward, does my NLE Computer HAVE to be on the Web to do this? Remember, I don't allow the MONSTA! anywhere near it! - Grazie

Jesse,
PNG is every bit as good as Tiff - even better, I'm not sure Tiff has Alpha. And Vegas handles PNG faster because it's done natively. You should be able to batch-convert your images in PS.

Yeah, batch convert does the trick.
You might want to look into the TGA format as well. It behaves like PNG but I recall Spot sometime said he had minor color anomalies with PNG's in a certain project. But, mostly I've used PNG's myself.

NO. You can download a full installable on your other machine and just take that to the "Monsta"! QT6.0.3 is about 10.5 meg.
