Plug-ins - more than one

Bambino wrote on 5/2/2012, 1:43 PM
Sorry if this is a very elementary question, but it's driving me mad! Is it possible to use more than one plug-in on an event in Sony Vegas? For example, when I edit a clip, if I use the Brightness-Contrast plug-in and then want to use the Secondary Color plug-in, how do I go about it? If it is possible, is there any limit as to the number of plug-ins I can use when editing one clip? I should be grateful for any advice.

You can add as many plug-in effects as you'd like.

As I show you in my book, it's often easiest to just add them all at once. When the Plug-ins option panel opens, hold down the Ctrl key and select as many plug-in effects as you'd like.

Once you've appled them, they appear as a chain along the top of your FX window. You can then select and customize each, turn any off or on or remove any completely.

Thank you, Steve. You have shown me a light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm not quite there yet. Two further queries:

1) If I 'm not sure what plug-ins I want to use, so can't add them all at once with the Control key, how can I add another plug-in after I have added the first one?

2) How do I stop a plug-in I have used being applied to another clip where I don't want it?

Vegas offers no help for these questions, so I am grateful for these forums where knowledgeable people like yourself can help amateurs like me!

1) When you click on the plugin chainer icon to see the current plugins, in the upper right corner is another chainer icon. Click that one to get back to the list and add more.

2) If the plugin is affecting more than one clip then i'd guess you've applied it to the entire track in the track header, rather than having applied it to the individual event. So, two things:

- 2a) Apply it by clicking the plugin chainer icon in the event itself, rather than in the track header. That way it only affects that one event.

- 2b) If you want the same effects applied to a bunch of events, then by all means set it up in the track header so that it applies to every event on that track! Then for the events that you don't want affected, move them up or down to a different video track.
