Plugins- Particals- nothing

gsimonelli wrote on 3/17/2010, 2:42 PM
Is there a reason why Vegas doesn't have any type of partical engine of any type? I've seen whats out there and you've got to be kidding. I've been using this thing since version 4 and still it's void of any kind of interface for other plugins. I read about every other NLE and they all use the same plugins. Is any thing coming in the near future or what.

Just suck it in and buy After Effects, problem solved.

Yeah, what the heck is wrong with you? You think you can come around here and just drop requests for nifty enhancements in the suggestion box?

Listen pal, reach in your pocket and part with a cool $800. for the fancy stuff you need - we'll have none of this complaining around these parts.

Leave the engineering to Sony and do your part to help the economy.

You guys are hilarious! But seriously, it's not a plug-in but particleIllusion does a fine job!

I think what Bob (farss) was trying to say, is that if you really have a major need to do particle FX, you are better off with a compositing program like AE. I use the built-in AE particle stuff and that is okay, but then you look at something like the RG Trapcode Particular plugin for AE and realize that particle work is an art unto itself.

I know that a few people jumped on me a few months ago when I said this, but SCS should really consider authoring an AE competitor, rather than upgrading the compositing engine in Vegas Pro.

I think JJM trying to get censored:>)

PS: I actually have PI and AE and havn't had time to learn either one

I thought I was just imagining this but I guess you guys are right. I'll just keep using 3 or 4 different apps to accomplish what one should. Thanks.

If that's enough to get you censored we are all in trouble!

Seriously, my point is a 6 or 7 year Vegas Vet (from version 4) knows all about AE and what it can do. He can speak for himself but my bet is he's looking for anything but 'advice' that has long since occurred to him.

I'll gladly take all the improvements without having to go outside Vegas. I like the Media Composer approach but I don't wanna have to learn it!

P.S. GSIMONELLI I'm adding this AFTER seeing your post just above (which hit just before this). I'm obviously with you - my initial post was tongue-in-cheek! I figured you deserved better.

as nice as it would be for one app to do everything, it's not really feasible. Some apps kind of do. Blender, for example, is a 3d app, particle, NLE, composite, audio editor & encoder. But because of this there's things it's really lacking in or has only "skin deep" usability. IE the NLE is nothing compared to vegas, so I'll happily using a separate NLE with that app.

When 1App does NOT do it all - it's OK as long as you have a smooth workflow to accomplish your goal(s). Both Adobe & Apple are trying to do this with their 'Suites'. Although I dislike having to learn/use all the different apps, I understand that each has its own strength. (some strengths should/could be combined into 1App)

When I'm using either the Apple or Adobe Suite, I do not have to touch any other app outside of that Suite. Granted, I may have to go into multiple apps but not another Vendor. So long as you can send your project in and out of another App without worry/headache it seems to work, but with Vegas... where do you send your timeline/clip/segment to do what Vegas can't?

Unless they can program it to do it all, Vegas definitely needs a complimentary app. As it stands, you can buy the entire Sony Creative Suite (which I own) and still NOT be able to do it all. Whereas with Apple's or Adobe's Suite(s) you can.

Some feel they should add new features to Vegas.
Some feel they should fix Vegas before adding anything new.
Oh... the dilemma!

I don't think Apple or Adobe have an equivalent to Sound Forge yet, do they? One thing I've always hated about Adobe apps is that nothing is the same between them. IE Photoshop is a completely different app vs Premiere, so knowing one is useless in another. Not like Vegas/Acid/SF combo: know one the UI is identical in the other.

Audition would be Adobe's equivalent to Sound Forge. They also have Soundbooth which would fall somewhere between Sound Forge and Sound Forge Studio feature wise.

The UI in CS4 is identical across apps - can't remember how many of the apps in CS3 were identical but many of them are.

ok, so it took ~6 8 years for them to get everything unified. To late for me, but it's nice they're doing that now. :)
