.png file - clear background?

I am adding a .png image to my VP 13 timeline - personal logo. The background has been removed in Photoshop. However, the background appears black (or sometimes white) in my preview/rendered .mp4 video file. I have tried playing with the track blending modes but can't seem to knockout my background while keeping the logo intact. ideas?

Is it transparent on your timeline? You might need to right click on the png in the assets window and select properties alpha channel

As Donald says, you might need to right click the image and select the alpha mode. The fact that it turns white OR black suggests that might be the problem.

In Photoshop, you should see a checkerboard in the transparent areas, not black or white. If you just simply Save-As a PNG it'll include the alpha channel without asking. If you Save For Web <Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S> you'll get lots of options along with a preview.

Somewhere in Photoshop I believe there's a setting to control how an alpha channel is premultiplied, but you really shouldn't need to fiddle with that.

<Edit>I just walked through the process for a sanity check. No problems with Vegas recognizing the alpha in the PNG saved from Photoshop. In Vegas, when I right-click the media to get its properties, Vegas reports the Alpha as "Straight (unmatted)"</Edit>

I know of no mp4 encoder in Vegas or otherwise that renders 32 bit rgba.
Its more than just having a transparent image to work with.

Selecting "Straight (unmated)" in the Media tab of the Properties for the file fixed the issue. Thanks Rob!

Hi. I seem to be havigna similar problem. I've gone into Alpha channel and changed it to straight (unmatted) but it still has a white background. Any way to fix this?

If the PNG file is created correctly, should be no issue when inserting to VP

Have you got that PNG sitting over a Background Track that has WHITE on it? As Set advises, go back over your PNG creation and SAVING and ensure you've done it correctly.
