Greetings, i am a newcomer when it comes to editing and i am currently editing a video for my YouTube channel, i wanted to add a transparent picture to my video, but when i do, the picture isn't transparent but instead the checkerboard stays and no matter what i do i can't get that checkerboard to disappear. I've also checked if the picture was infact a png format and it is, and i have also tried going into the properties of the image and changing the Alpha Channel to straight(unmatted) and it still doesn't work, what am i doing wrong? Can yo help? I have attached some screenshots to the post, any help with be greatly appreciated!

Do you know for sure the alpha channel is correct? How did you create the image?

Did you download it from google images etc? It's likely not transparent, you have to go to the website for real transparent version

@xenon21 - To me, that Graphic has been published to demonstrate just what a Transparent piece of Media will appear, and not intrinsically that it IS Transparent. You’ve done everything to “activate” the ALPHA Channel, IF it was there. It’s obvious that it isn’t. If you were to post/attach that file I’d be prepared to interrogate it. Up to you. You could also provide a Link to the original Website.

It is not a transparent image. More than likely, it is a picture of a transparent image, which will not be transparent. Just because an image is in .png format does not mean it is "transparent."

@karma17 - Yes, do read my comment above. Hopefully your comment will reinforce what we all believe. Thanks!

Yeah, websites that specialise in transparencies don't allow google to scrape them, but instead have versions without alpha channel for search engines, google images etc. In this example you have non transparent png visible to google, and a transparent version hidden from google but accessible to human by clicking download button

@Grazie Thank you so much for posting and helping me with my problem! It would seem that you are correct, the picture i used isn't transparent, even though it is in PNG format, the picture that you have posted is indeed transparent, i wasn't aware of this and i thought that all PNG's are transparent, thank you so much!

Thank you everyone who helped me, it would seem that downloading a picture directly from google images will result in your picture not being transparent even though they are in PNG format. I will be aware of this from now on
