Are you capturing via firewire or USB? USB is fine for digital stills but often gives problems with video.

Are you capturing from a Hi8 or some other analogue format?

I've just had a long conversation with a very helful chap called (I think) Ted, at Sony Media tech help.

It turns out what you and I are *not* doing, is to set the capture resolution to a higher setting than is the default on some capture cards.

If you capture in 320 x 240 as I was doing, Ted says that it's too small an image. When transforming this image into a DVD - which uses a very much larger & *higher* resolution format - the image is bound to look rough.

I don't know about the preferred setting for NTSC, but certainly on PAL the best setting for capture from a Hi8 or VHS machine is actually 720 x 576. I tried this out this evening, and the picture is *hugely* better.

Another important point is to check that the same resolution setting is set *throughout* the process. So, just as 720 x 576 is the capture setting, so should be the "file/properties" in Vegas *and* DVD Architect.

I really think Sony should make mention of this in their future instructions.
