Poor sync in Vegas Audio

ok...ok..ok...enough is enough child....
The name of my company is my initials, and It's actually a very well established name...regardless of what you link it to. I am not an amateur Joe... I do this for a living, and I made 6 figures last year... enough in fact that I am building a log cabin as we speek to house my new studio. I also own two very succesfull record companies. But who cares RIGHT? That's bedide the point....and you really don't care anyways as I'm sure you'll post in your reply. And Fankly I don't blame you.

I was just trying to help anyone who has this problem. My session went great this morning with XP. I used to use 98se, until one of my co-workers here accidentally deleted a file neede for the OS to boot properly. (man was that a headache to figure out), so we figured ... what the heck...let's try XP. So we did... and that was even a bigger headache! BUT... we eventually got all the bugs fixed (except the losing of sync). We tried everything ( or so we thought at the time) to fix this problem, but we didn't have any luck. That's when I got on the horn and paid to talk to a rep. He gave me a few idea's as to what might be going on, but it didn't really help at all. That's when I switched back to using pro-tools for a while. I did really like vegas, so after hours I sat here and tried different settings and countless reboots util (finally) It started working. That is why I am reluctant to just throw out all of the adjustments I made... It could possibly screw up your computer worse than it allready is. That is why (joe) I offered my e-mail address to you, so I could (take time out of my busy day) to share each and every one of my settings with you. I'm sure you realize just how many settings there are inside of this program, and I can't go thru each and every one on here...cuz you would just get lost (as I have many times before when I have tried to faoolow other's leads). That AGAIN is why I gave my e-mail account to you. I realize that some settings would be totally irrelevant to your settup... I'm not stupid JOE (or paranoid) ... I was just throwing out things to watch out for when using XP. Alot of those were recommended by a SF rep, I was just relaying them to you in hopes thAT MAYBE i COULD HELP YOU...That's all...And you had to go and start throwing you ego around right away instead of taking a step back and looking at the picture as a whole.

Here's the deal man... I have the fix for Xp loosing sync of it's tracks...And you don't...If I were you... (which I'm glad I'm not)... I would be a little more hesitant to go throwing around names and calling others "amateur". I understand that it is a stressfull thing when it feels like there is nothing you can do to make a program cooperate, I have been there too many times myself.

One other thing you must realize is that I would've gave you my phone number if needed and I could've walked you through my settings (not as a guarantee that it would work, but hell...it would be worth a try huh?) . It took me a long time to get vegas to keep sync of my tracks with XP, and I changed SOOOOO many settings over and over till it finally worked. It would take me a year to explain step by step which adjustment I made in what order. It would be alot easier to just tell you the settings I have now at the persent time....wouldn't you agree? I would hope so, beacuse otherwise I would have to call you amateur JOE.... As a matter pf fact.. I was looking into taking a snapshot of each screen with my digital camera, and puting them on file so I could send them to you and whoever else it may benifit. MY COMPUTER IS NOW WORKING GREAT WITH XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. It sounds like you are not amateur... in fact.. it sounds like you have a very nice settup there...(a little similar to this actually)and it sounds like you know what you're doing. My studio's net worth was estimated at just over 300,000 dollars... This comapny is not anything to sneeze at Joe, and I am sorry you felt the need to jump to conclusions and call me (and my 4 year degree in acoustical engineering and sound production from the University of Hartford) amateur.

I am older than you may think joe and I have worked with two bands that have been #1 on the billboard charts, as well as many Indie bands that have appeared on such shows as "spin city" (twice) and (90210 back in the day)... as well as apearing on The Late show and Jay leno. I'll give you a hint.....WTC benifit concert. So now maybe you'll think twice about burning a bridge (before you even cross it). To all the others out there with this problem...(now I'm not talking about joe's ego problem... I'm talking about lost sync of tracks in vegas XP) give me an e-mail... I'll be glad to help you as best I can. BTW... One of my good friends is a computer science major at R.I.T. (top school for it from what I've heard). He will be graduating in May, and I plan on hiring him as soon as he graduates. He writes drivers and software for any program he wants, and as a matter of fact...He is working on a multi track program similar to vegas and pro-tools with best of both worlds combined. He has helped me out alot when it comes to fixng this machine....and as a matter of fact.. he built it for me his freshman year, and it still works great! He was too busy with school to help me out with this last problem of losing sync, but after he graduates...He should go on to make ALOT of money. I'll let you guys know when he finishes this multitrack program...and who knows....If you're nice maybe I'll let you get a free demo of it when he releases it.... Peace! And to Joe... I thought about it... and I thought about it again... //////////so now I offer this help to you again in return for a truse ok???
We're both guilty of being anal about this... So let's just put this behind us and move on to what we are both here for...Sonic Foundry discussions. I appologize to all who had to read us being anal. Take care everyone. Anyone can e-mail me and we can try to figure out your specific sync problems. I know just about every single setting in this program , and I could just about walk a blind person thru them...and Also...I just got an e-mail from a S/F rep this afternoon stating that it more than likely was the video card interfeering with the drivers for vegas. He thinks the drivers for my ATI card are in conflict with XP. This is somehow affected Vegas' syncing of the tracks. . I have the ATI all in wonder video Card in this computer. I disabled all of the drivers that were used for 3d gaming and that may have been the real fix -he said. I wonder if this is a problem with most video cards out there....hhhhmmmmmm......Peace . Good, good, good.

You need to slow down and re-read. Did I say the name dmb records when stating there's some amateursh replies here? No. You are once agin acting paranoid.
This isn't the board to visit when dealing with these problems however.

You didn't have to explain anything to me. If you don't like me that's your pergoative. I'm not going to change ya. So thanks for all the background and text, but does it matter?

Look. I would STILL list the changes. Why? It's up to those users who try these changes - they know that. You aren't held responsible and no fool in their right mind would say otherwise. But stating "I made changes and it works now" is...well...not only annoying but borderline idiotic. Go ahead and list it man...nobody will think bad of you..only the opposite.

So to keep the focus on the topic, I say LIST THE CHANGES YOU MADE.

I'm sure you're all business with your studio/recordings. Can I ask how I would know otherwise? And are we talking about that here in this thread?

Company name:
sorry, but would you rather I treat you like a twit and not tell you how your name reads to john q public at first sight?

I bet not if you really thought about it.

dear..dear...dear...

Those are the changes I made!!!! (in the first posting) How hard is it to realize that what I was talking about was the changes I made!!!! I told you in my very first post all the changes I made...(are we clear now?) but I also implied that it could have been any one of those that fixed it.
LIKE I SAID...the factory rep and I both narrowed it down to a driver problem with certain settings that deals with the video card and Vegas. A conflict if you will.

I reserved my IRQ slots in my bios (s/f rep advice) (see my first post)
I set my latencies (further explained in my first post) (but that has to due with your acuracy of your sound card...and everyone has different ones now a days... but it works for my settup, I figured i'd share)
I turned off my ethernet card. (first post)
I disabled all unnecesary drivers on the video card. (first post)
I made sure that all "do not pre-roll buffers" boxes were checked (better explained in the first posting once again)
Am I the only one that sees a pattern here???

Now there are alot of other settings in there that are user specific (ie: routing)
that I didn't list, you know why... it's irrelevant. and besides... I didn't change them at all.

And by the way.. it has nothing to do with your clock setting, otherwise it would do the same thing in win98se, and I think I remember you saying that it was fine in 98se. (which mine was too).
You allready know to set your computer to master, and everything else to slave if I remember correctly. Good man... You'd be suprised at how many people screw that one up.

I also told of the obvious... diabling you virus scanner and and any background programs I think.

Well, that's it...ooohh ya... I'm sure you already know not to set the buffer for playback too high..alot of people screw that one up too... that will cause tracks to loose sync as well.

Now there are some other changes I made, that I felt were irrelevant, like reinstalling the update for sound forge 5.0 f, diabling the drivers for my cd burner (which I'm sure didn't matter, but I did it anyways). I already mentioned the PCI laterncy change in the first post.

I feel that the main thing you should concentrate on joe is your video card. As the rep asked me.. Is it complient with winXP? My drivers said they were, but I don't think so when vegas is opened. It interferes with Vegas everytime it follows the cursor to the next page as it is playing and recording. That is why it starts off being in sync, but gets worse as it goes on...that first page "swap" is what caused it for me, and every other time it "swaped" (or followed the music past the viewable edge of the screen, and put the cursor on the left side of the screen again.) A simple check that I found to see if it is your video card driver is....
zoom in all the way and hold the button. (up arrow on your keyboard). Do the tracks lose sync and sound like sh*t? Then you've found the problem my man...
try turning your hardware accelerator down under display/advanced/ in your control panel... see if that helps. It didn't help me, but it might help you. otherwise, go in the device manager and start disabling everything that isn't necessary for a basic display. You may end up trying a different video card before it's all said and done according to the rep... let me know... peace out D.

Good info Joe- this is the best thing I've ever seen you post on any forum.

I don't have any sync problems, but others here might benefit from the info.
Really though, much of what you did is standard in configuring a daw. Many others are streamlined but experience the sync problem - no matter the video card.

your original post wasn't like this last one, but I suppose thats all for this thread.
