Poor Video Display quality (not Vegas)

I have a problem and I don't know where else to ask.

When I work with video in Vegas, it looks ok, but when I play it back in Windows Media player, Quicktime, or even Winamp, it looks horrible. It is oversaturated, washed out and the colors are messed up. Even when I play a DVD, it looks bad

This has to be a windows problem because it affects all the available players.

I posted here because I didn't have any idea where else to ask.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Kirk

Go to the Windows desktop. Right-click on an empty area and choose Properties. Click on the Settings tab and then on the Advanced button. Click on the Overlay tab. See if all the settings are adjusted to the defaults (the actual settings will depend on your video card).

You may have to have your video player running (with a video actually displaying) to enable the settings in the Overlay dialog.

I have a problem with my ATI card in that the overlay is always stuck with the brightness control turned way up. I keep changing it, but the setting never sticks. The next time I play something, everything is too bright and washed out. That's why I am aware of this (not quite) "fix."

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

I have been loading new video drivers and beating my head into to the wall trying to figure out what is wrong.

The color curve was all jacked up in the GeForce video overlay settings.

I knew someone here would know the answer.
