Pops and Clicks in Audio Recording

strunz0 wrote on 8/2/2001, 10:08 AM
I recently purchased a gateway laptop and motu 828 firewire device in hopes of doing portable recordings. I am experiencing some serious pops and clicks in my audio recordings. This is not just in vegas but in all software that I own including sound forge, and cakewalk.
I have heard some stuff about IRQ conflicts, but no solid insight as to what my problem could be. I have listed some more in depth specs below. Thanks for your time, and hopefully someone can help.

Gateway Solo 5300
Siig Firewire card
128 mb ram
pIII 700
Windows ME
Sonic Foundry Vegas 1.0
MOTU 828 Firewire interface.

Someone please help me :(

Update video and sound card drivers. Check for IRQ conflicts in System Information. You should also make sure that your sound card is showing up properly in the Device Manager. Also make sure that all of the I/O for the sound card is showing up properly in the multimedia area of the control panel.

What kind of soundcard do you have?
Def could be irq.Is dma checked for your drives as well?
Check these and post for us to see.;-)

This sounds like an issue that you should contact our Technical Support Department with directly. Just send an email to support@sonicfoundry.com.

I have MOTU 1224 and 2408 expander and am using with vegas. I have at times experienced this problem but I found that adjusting the buffers in both the PCI-324 configuration as well as vegas solved this problem for me. IN MOTU I set the buffer to 512 and in vegas at about 30 as opposed to the default 25. Also, at MOTU, they have Beta drivers for win2k which work for windows 98 as well and address many issues with said pops & clicks so you might could give those a shot as well.

hmmmm. i have gotten the problem to stop when I use windows 98, but the problem persists in windows 2000, me, and server. i think there may be some driver issues here.

Is the MOTU system actually compatible with Win2k? It also should work in Windows ME since it's basically an upgrade to Win98. Seems very confusing...

yeah it is...what is funny is that tech support told me it was built around 2k's architecture, and that if anything the problem should arise in 98se...wierd....anybody know what is going on??!!??
