Possible bug?

I think this is a little bug, or if its intended, maybe a bit annoying.

The problem is when the event-fx loads. Often I click on event-fx to change a video clip in some way then save the alteration so that I may apply it to other clips. If I close the fx box and then click on it again the saved fx is still there, but it says in the name box (where you type the new name to save) "Untitled" even though I have set it to a saved preset and not changed anything since. I could understand that the saved preset name would change to "Untitled" as soon as I make an alteration, but not by closing the event-fx box and reopening it again.

This is most burdensome when I have changed a few clips to a saved preset. If I want to go back and see which ones have been changed to a certain preset I can't because the name automatically switches to untitled.

If I am mistaken here, somebody help straighten me out, I am known for tripping over me own feet sometimes so I could easily be missing something obvious. If not, does anybody else think it warrants a product suggestion for V5?
thanks,
Carson Calderwood

I don't consider it a bug. Think of the presets as "starting points". Then you can make additional changes to the settings which would no longer be that preset. So, Vegas remembers your SETTINGS, not which preset was chosen.

I'm very glad it does remember your presets. Although this is a very minor annoyance for me, I would prefere to have it a different way.

It would be nicer for me if the name didn't change until the settings are changed. I'll probably send it in anyway as a product suggestion. The vegas guys seem to be amazingly knowledgable and open to suggestions. If they think the majority of people would prefere it one way, then they will probably put it that way.

If you type a new name in the preset window it will come back under that name. Cannot see any other way it could work.
For example under Color Curves I have several presets for 8mm film like 8mm_1, 8mm_2, etc. I just add the FX and select my previous settings by name

thanks, I do this also. That is how I was able to quickly apply the same effect to multiple clips. The problem came when I noticed that I had skipped adding it to one of the many clips. I wanted to go back and check the others to see if I had accidentally skipped any others. When I click on the effects button to see what has been done it just says "Untitled" in the box, rather than what I named the setting and saved it as. It stills shows up if I click on that box. Unfortunatly, it doesn't stay in the box after closing the window and opening it up again :(

Can't feel too bad though. This is the only thing I can possibly say that might be done incorrectly with the software. I'm sure if I were using any of the other NLE's my list would be as long as my arm.

Yes, I've noticed this too Cheroxy - I hope you sent it in as a product suggestion,
It can be frustrating knowing that you've applied one of the presets to an event, but not being sure exactly which one it was.

Ah now I see what you mean. Yes it's a bit annoying however they are only presets, they just load a set of values and you can then change these. Once you've done that they're no longer that preset.
The alternative would be to let you use only the values in the preset. If you wanted something different you'd have to create a new preset. I suspect that'd be as much of a pain.
I guess maybe they could have a flag against the the FX in the event that says if the preset is valid or not i.e. it's been changed from its original value.

I agree with Cheroxy. Its funny, not long ago I read the exact same discussion on the Cakewalk Sonar board. If I remember correctly, somebody over there said the "untitled" problem was a limitation of the MS Direct X system. But that wouldn't apply to video FX, would it?

Actually i think it would.

I have sent it in. The vegas guys usually do a pretty good job of reading these forums, but I thought I would make the request official.
