VPs audio FX automation uses 'envelopes'. The automation "points" are audio equivalent of "keyframes".
I sometimes add markers to I.D. in-out points on the envelope. Double-clicking at a certain position on an envelope will add that specific point and the points can be dragged L-R, Up-down as well. There is also an envelope edit tool for working on sections, copy paste, ect.. An envelope can be locked to audio events also. Another handy option is when a duration is highlighted in the timeline, dragging an envelope up or down will add in/out points automatically.

There are shortcuts for adding volume and pan envelopes (V and P), Off hand, I am not aware of any for adding points.

Here's a demo of a little script that should do what you want. First, add markers (press M) while the timeline is playing. Then run the script. If there's interest, I'll upload it and make it available.

Sure Wayne, I foresee usage for it on some projects.

Thanks

OK, I see. But is it possible to create a new script that will do the same thing at the cursor position, but without having to mark anything first?

If all you want to do is add an envelope point at the cursor position, just double click on the envelope. If you want to add points while the cursor is moving, that is, "playing", then entering M at the desired points and running the script after playing has stopped doesn't seem like a big effort to me. Moreover, the advantage of adding markers is that they can be easily adjusted if necessary before adding envelope points.
