Possible to use the keyboard's L, R, U, D arrows to align text?

Derg wrote on 10/10/2023, 10:38 AM

Hi. Working with Vegas Pro v21, build 108

Is there a way to adjust multiple lines of onscreen text location for alignment purposes using the keyboard's L, R, U, D arrows to nudge text? I know I can "grab" the text in the preview screen and move the text but it's difficult to be precise.

@Derg open vegas title and text,

next in the plugin expand "location:" click on the small triangular button, a rectangle with a crosshair in de middle appears, next click on the crosshair, then you can use the up/down/L/R keys to move the text.

Granularity may be still a bit crude, the steps are by default 0.1

You can also open Pan/Crop, click on the "F" window, and the arrow keys will allow you to move it around.

The steps are too large. I checked Preferences to see if the default can be changed to something smaller than .01 but I cannot find any reference to that. Is there a way to change the default?

Try holding CTRL down while moving the crosshair.

Robert Johnston wrote on 10/10/2023, 7:55 PM

@Derg This is kind of strange. With the Video Generator Editor open for the subject text, if you hold down the left mouse button while inside the text box on the video preview window (just as if you were going to move the textbox around with the mouse), you can use the 4,6,8,2 keys on the numpad to nudge titles one pixel at a time. Be careful not to press 5 on the numpad while holding down the mouse button. It takes several seconds for Vegas to recover. I don't know what is going on there.

Simple in Vegas Titles & Text

Robert Johnston wrote on 10/10/2023, 11:48 PM

@mark-y That is still moving the box several pixels at a time even holding the control key. To get a better view of what is happening, you need to have preview in Good Full and set size to Original Size.

All that this did was to jump the cursor on the timeline.

Using CTRL makes a big difference on my V20. Here is a video. At about 8 seconds I use CTRL while moving.

Thanks. This works but moves the text in 0.01 increments depending on which arrow is hit. That's fine but I was hoping for a bit finer than that.

I am not hitting any arrows. I am moving the cursor in the little box and it is moving less than .01.

Thanks. Okay but how do you move less than .01? I have gone to the Preview screen then left mouse grabbed the text and can nudge a little but it's hard to control. When I retried your suggestion all I saw was increments of .01 movement.

If you watch my video, while holding the CTRL button, you can see the title move, but the numbers don't increment or decrement every movement. It could be related to the resolution of your mouse, not sure.
