I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover this gem, only seen part 2 but I'm going to buy the full set if I can find it.

For those who haven't seen it, make the effort. What an amazing piece of work. Pointless me using words to describe what is a purely visual work.

One question kept entering my head as I watched it, almost everything I can understand how it was done, just get the best crews and the best gear and a great composer and all the usual creative stuff, piece of cake really :)
Anyway my question: How do you move that amount of heavy iron into many of those places without destroying that which is the subject of what you're shooting?

Bob.

Heli's?
You might want to check out the third in the series: Naqoyqatsi.
All three are from Hopi concepts, very beautiful indeed. Phillip Glass' compositions (which use some ACID loops, btw) are incredibly illustrative of the visual work.

I am partial to the first one - Koyaanisqatsi - It turned me on to Mr. Glass years ago.

Wonderfull trilogy!

It's a shame that those gems are so difficult to find or see!

the first was produced by Coppola, the second by Coppola & Lucas, and the third by soderbergh!
Not bad, hey?! ;)

If you pretend to be involved and interested by "imaging/visual", you MUST see those films!
And keep in mind when they've been done, because I often heard after showing Koyaanisqatsi people saying: "already seen that kind of things before"!
But what they saw 's been made at least 10 years after!

and take a look to "Baraka" too, Ron Fricke's movie, who was the director of photography on the Qatsi trilogy!

enjoy!
;)

I'm curious as to what Coppola and Lucas's roles were, they're mentioned on Glass' web site under:

"Presented by FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA, GEORGE LUCAS."

Credits for production goes to:
"Produced by MEL LAWRENCE, GODFREY REGGIO, LAWRENCE TAUB."

And yet in quite large letters on the DVD slick is Coppola and Lucas's names.

Presented by usually means that the presenters saw the film early on possibly at a film festival and are willing to use their celebrity and clout to get the film a wider release.

I remember at least two "Quentin Tarantino presents" movies, Chung King Express and Hero. (both of which are fantastic, have the same cinematographer and look completely different)

Plus dont forget Ron Frike's other film "Chronos" simply amazing cinematography with time lapse and incredible music.
