Check this out.
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/

I purchased it at Compusa and configured it for SB. Turn the dial left or right to scoll through the timeline. Click and hold for 1/2 second to play. Click again to pause. Click and turn left/right and zoom in/out in the timeline.

Highly configurable! So far an excellent addition! Looks cool too...

I went to CompuUSA and bought a Powermate knob right after work today after reading your post at lunch. Would you mind sharing what key commands you assigned to what knob actions for SB?

Thanks

sure -

"rotate right" = send key = right arrow
"rotate left" = send key = left arrow
I moved the sensitivity to "Fast" for both of these. You have to change it on both rotate right and rotate left. You can experiment to determine what you like.

"Click and Rotate Right" = Send Key = up arrow
"Click and Rotate Left" = Send Key = down arrow
not sure if I am going to use this much. It is hard to click and rotate in my opinion.

Here is where the magic is
"Long Click" = send key = space - move the long click length to .5
"Click" = send key = return
Therefore, in order to begin playing the timeline, I click the knob and hold it briefly and it will begin to play. To pause, I simply click again. So on and so on.

Make sense?

P.S. I have found that you need to reboot after to make changes to the settings.

Thanks for the detailed response.

It seems to be a fairly simple interface, but I can't get my settings to take.

I add a new setting, point to svbfact30.exe, set up the new actions, click APPLY NOW, then OK and reboot. When I bring up Screenblast again, the Powermate knob still controls volume & mute. (BTW, Global Only is not checked). Looking at the Powermate Properties window, the svbfact30 setting I created is not listed. The new setting doesn't seem to get saved. It's gone as soon as I say OK and re-enter the PowerMate Properties window.

Does any of this sound familiar? Maybe it's something particular to my system. I'm running under Windows XP Pro.

I've reported my problem to Griffin Technologies Support. We'll see if they have any ideas.

I can't wait to get this thing working. It's got a great feel to it and the blue light is kind of hypnotic.

Thanks for your help.

No - I did not have any such problem. I had problems getting XP (Home) to recognize the device at first, but once that occured it seemed to work. You may want to follow their FAQ for installation. Run through those items and maybe it will correct itself.

Thanks again for your help. I'm getting a *little* frustrated, but really want to get this thing working.

I've removed & installed the program several times according to the instructions in the FAQ, with no improvment. When I create the new settings for sbvfact30.exe, click APPLY NOW , OK and go into SB, the knob still does the default settings: l/r is volume down/up, and click is mute on/off.

When I open the Powermate Properties window again, there are only 3 settings listed: Global Settings, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player... nothing for sbvfact30. Looks like the new setting isn't saved to the PowerMate2.dat file. The tech support guy at Griffin Technologies said to make sure I had installed under Administrator and that the PowerMate2.dat file was not READ ONLY or HIDDEN. Still no go.

Let me know if this sparks any ideas.

Thanks,

Mike

I had no such issues, so I can not really help. Sorry, that is a bummer. It is terrible that the tech support is not more helpful.

Well, after going back & forth with e-mail for a couple of weeks the support guy at Griffin Technologies asked me what the cable on my PowerMate looked like. I told him "clear insulation, you can see the silver wire braid through it". He goes "Ahhhhh. We've had a hardware update. What's your address? We'll send you a new one."

I'll let you all know what happens with the new one... and what color the cable is.

Sorry for the long delay. That is weird. Mine is white.

One other thing that I notice. Make sure you are not plugging into a USB hub.
