Pre-render files

Hi guys

Guess I'm still thinking Premiere, but when I make changes to a project and I see that the pre-rendered bits on the timeline have gone (ie - need rerendering) the files still remain in the directory I have defined as the prerender directory.

In Prem, if you make changes it will delete the prerendered files. I assume I'm missing something here and we don't have to manually delete files that aren't needed any more (especially as I don't know which one refers to which prerender).

Cheers

You do have to delete the files, but there is a menu command, Tools/Clean Up Prerendered Video, so you don't have to work out which file is for which render.

Cool - thanks for that Richard.

Bleeding obvious when you look at that menu really isn't it? :-)

EDIT:

But I guess that means I need to define a temp directory that is different for every project so that Vegas knows which project it is deleting files from?

ENDEDIT

Ah well - getting used to Vegas slowly.

Don't spose you know where they hide the define keys, macros or command shortcuts? (Did find that in a forum search and believe it doesn't exist as yet).

I'm not sure if you need to define separate directories. I found that the prerendered files tended to be quite volatile, even if I was working on just one project at a time. The upshot is that I gave up using them as anything more than temporary checks of playback timing when I have applied a lot of effects etc. I usually clear them out quite frequently and not rely on them.

If you go to the Help menu, there is a section on keyboard shortcuts. For macros and define keys I can't help you, but there is a separate forum on Scripting which might be of interest to you if you are into this.

Thanks again Richard

Yeah - I'd sorta noticed the volatility of the prerenders which is why I thought I was doing something wrong :-) And I've also just been using them as a quick preview and not relying on them to stay there, so I think I'll continue that habit.

I've learnt as many shortcuts as I can (I used to edit CMX and prefer as many keys as I can get) but was sorta hoping to be able to define my own.

Still really like VV though. Got a lot of potential with some more development... love the idea of hardware and resolution independent.

Cheers

See this thread for what I do to manage keyboard shortcuts:
