CRT TV? I very vaguely recall seeing something like this in the past and I finally put it down to either an ageing CRT or an optical illusion.

Nope, neither an optical illustion nor an aging CRT. Previous discs do just fine.

I've obviously overlooked something, just don't know what it is.

If your video levels are hot enough to kick in the TV set's AGC, this will happen on CRTs.

Use the Vegas scopes and levels to get everything down to "legal" and give it another go.

Everything is legal.

Jay, I vaguely recall reading that this was a black at 0-0-0 vs. 16-16-16 issue.

"... a black at 0-0-0 vs. 16-16-16 issue."

Meaning what...? All my blacks are set at 16.

Your blacks may be at 16 but the blacks behind the widescreen are probably at 0.
As I said, this is something I vaguely remember reading about so I may be way off base here.

Do you have a track of 'legal' black at the bottom of your timeline. Sounds to me like the fades are going to/from superblack.

Bob.

Crap! That's what I forgot!

Thanks, Bob.

Bob's reply is what I was trying to get at but the brain cells weren't working too well today :-)
