Preview and 1394 capture still doesn't work right in 4.0b

The previous problem noted with the automatic preview of files still doesn't work right in version 4.0b using Win98SE as noted in previous threads. If you click on a large gif 1439x1485x32, hit the preview button, the preview window changes sizes (black, no image), then displays the image only for two microseconds. Is there a size limitation to what can be previewed? Smaller gif files (512xcan be previewed o.k. If you drag the 'big" gif to the timeline, it does display. Haven't found the "cutoff size" for gif files yet. And the preview button stays "down" (active), even when an image is done previewing.

Capture from a 1394 device doesn't work either (still does in my VV3). What changed in VV4? Preview window is black during a capture until video is stopped. Message comes up saying 'no video captured'. Will check previous threads for this problem shortly.

My system is: win98se, nvidia gforce2 (latest drivers), 512meg, 1.5 ghz P4, VV4 4.0b build 174, canon optura mini dv camera.

The automatic preview of stills uses the still image length for the duration of the preview, perhaps you have this set to a short time period. You can change it in Options | Preferences | Editing tab.

The initial default setting was 5 seconds. I changed it to 10 seconds in the Options|Preferences|Editing tab. It still only gives me (out of the total time of ten seconds) the image being displayed for a quarter second on a 2508x1790x32 image.

Any clues on why 1394 capture doesn't work? Differences between VV3 and VV4?
Thanks,

Concerning the 1394 capture problem, I went back to VV3, where I get a preview of the video (versus VV4 where I get NO preview). But now VV3 no longer captures video from my 1394 device. Was there something in VV4 that wrote over, or updated some 1394 drivers that effected my VV3?

It seems to be working now in my VV4. Interesting thing was the tape that I was playing through the camcorder did not have audio on it (for the first 6 minutes). And it was set to the Stereo1 track on recording the tape. I had noticed that there was no audio playing during tape playback, which caused me to pop in another tape in the Canon camcorder. Now it works. Have capture. Seems strange that with no (or screwed up) audio that you wouldn't get a preview of the video played during a capture session, yet I could capture still frames even though the video was not displayed. Will have to play with this somemore. Might as well say NTF.
