Preview freezes, changes colors & goes black with or without FX Bypass

David-Weathersby wrote on 3/12/2024, 8:51 PM

I've been using Vegas 21 since it was released with the same setting and an Nvidia RTX 3080 card. Lately when I'm previewing a project it plays fine for about 20 seconds then the visuals freeze and turn strange colors and finally go black. This happens with multiple projects. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software twice I've enabled Legacy AVC, turned off GPU acceleration, and gone into internal to change OpenCL/GL to False. I've even rolled back the driver on the graphics card. Has anyone been through something like this and if so what do you recommend to fix it? Thanks.

What's your CPU?

Can you share MediaInfo for the media you are using? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

It's likely something that doesn't work well in VEGAS

I'm running an Intel i9 10900KF at 3.70GHZ. It's a big project (documentary) so I have no idea how many files there are, but they are mainly.MTS, MOV, WAV, and a few .jpgs. I've never used Mediainfo before, so I'm not sure which file to pick.

Oh I noticed that if I have FX bypass on it will preview and render. However I have to take ever FX off the individuals files and I can only use the FX bypass to add FX. Which is a huge hassle if I want to apply FX to just one clip.

Can you narrow down the problem at all? Is there a Fx that isn't working right? Try the latest NVIDIA studio driver.

Can you share mediainfo for the MOV? wav and jpeg should be fine.

  • @David-Weathersby The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo .
  • After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, screen capture that page & post it on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment or Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

Here is a still shot of what the image on the preview screen does. It freezes and turns the image into that. of it will flicker and go black even if I have GPU turned off.

This isn't a normal decoding error that I've ever seen. I'd suggest a GPU issue?

Constant framerate AVC shouldn't be a problem.
