Preview 'jerky' whilst editing.

Hi
I am using VMS Ver 9.0a and importing AVCHD files into my project to enable best possible quality. My problem is that my ‘Preview’ whilst editing is very ‘jerky’. I have tried using on various settings from ‘Draft’ to ‘Best’ but it makes no difference. I am new to editing using AVCHD files so I would imagine it is to do with the spec of my PC but would appreciate comments on whether this is a correct assumption or not. My PC has a AMD 3.3 gb processor and 1gb of RAM. I am using Win XP with full updates and DX9 and a RADEON 9800 SERIES 128mb Graphics processor.
If there is a way around this problem without changing my PC I would be very appreciative of any advice.
Many thanks.

Three things:
1. AVCHD is extremely slow to edit, this is normal.
2. 1 GB of RAM is not enough for HD editing. You need a minimum of 2 GBs.
3. For speed up tips check here, the fourth item: http://hv20.com/showthread.php?t=9639

Eugenia, where you set this setting:

"8. If you are using the Pro version, stay with 8bit editing and not 32bit. While 32bit editing can offer a tiny bit better visual quality when using plugins or transitions, it is extremely slow to edit as such."

It is clear where, when you quoted " If you are using the Pro version...". That setting is for Vegas Pro, not Movie Studio/Platinum. If you have the Pro version, it's on the project properties dialog.

Yes, I have Vegas 7 Pro.

I must be blind... I'm clicking File / Project Properties.. don't see it.

Which tab? I looked on the Video, Audio, Ruler, Summary, and Audio CD tab. I must be in the wrong place.

Vegas 7 was not called Pro, it was called just Sony Vegas. It requires the Pro version of Vegas, which only started existing in version 8 and later.

OK - gotcha.

I said "Pro" because it's not the Studio/Platinum versions, and although unoffically, most people on this forum and others referred to the non-Studio versions as "Pro".

So the option you're referring to is only available in Vegas Pro 8. (and most likely future Pro versions...)

Thanks for the other tips though.
