preview jerky with Matrox-MPG files

It is a while that I am using Vegas with good results. Up to now I usually used PAL-DV movie imported by firewire and everything was OK.
Now I have the necessity to work with some 702*576 progressive MPEG-2 files created by my graphic card Matrox Marvel G 450 eTV. Unfortunately when I preview, the movie is very jerky. Frame counter under the preview sometimes stop for a while, sometimes dots appears after the frame number. The audio as well stop in that moment for a while. Then few seconds of fine movie, and it stops again. It is very hard to work in this conditions.
I tried with 352*288 MPEG-2 file created with the same card and the problem does not occur.
Does anybody know which is the matter and how the problem can be solved?
Many thanks

MPEG is a horrid format to work with while editing. You may want to try rendering these files to DV avi files and then using the avi versions in your project.

Roberto:

If it was me, I would create a V4 project for each MPG clip you need to work with. Render each V4 project as uncompressed AVI. Then use the AVI files in your final V4 project rather than the MPG.

Convert one MPG file to AVI first as a test. This might solve the problem. I have tried working with MPG and MOV files in the past, they really bog my system down and make V4 almost unusable. Rendering them to AVI then using the AVI files instead has always worked for me.
