preview on external monitor

I am running vegas 6.0d on windows 2000 pro. I have a adaptec firewire card duo which has 3 usb 2.0 and 2 firewire ports. I can capture video into the computer with no problems but when i try to preview a clip to an external monitor it does not show. I have a JVC deck and i have never had this problem before. I don't know what the problem is. Do you think that i should get a dedicatated firewire card instead of a duo card. Thanks in advance

What kind of a/d converter device are you connecting the FW output to? If you unplug it and plug it back in, does Windows make a sound and display a popup asking what to do with the device? What did you set the preview device setting to in Vegas?

I think I read in the Sony documentation that the project setting must be DV (PAL, NTSC, Widescreen, std)

I had problems with an HDV project once with my setup.
