Preview picture flipped and dark

McRyanGold wrote on 9/14/2025, 11:08 AM

I have never had this issue with any other version of VEGAS or Movie Studio, but since updating to VEGAS 23 (Build 278), my preview is permanently flipped vertically, and the picture is dark.

For the darkness issue that is solved by simply moving the window to my SDR monitor, rather than my main HDR monitor, I'd still like to know how to fix the issue on my HDR monitor, since that's the one I want to use VEGAS.

The upside-down issue, on the other hand, I have absolutely no clue what's causing that or have even seen anything of this issue either on this community page or generally online, especially as said, the video is only flipped vertically, not horizontally too, so basically it's not properly upside down / rotated 180 degrees.

Edit: Preview is actually too bright on my SDR monitor as well, so basically, either it's too dark or too bright, depending on which screen I have it on.

Also, a temporary solution for the flip problem has been found by turning off and on "Enable Preview Scaling," though it does go back once VEGAS is started back up again

@McRyanGold Ok it looks like VP23 has some quirks that still need ironing out but if you can post more info then maybe someone can help.

Right click the image on the timeline - Properties & share a screen capture picture of that on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

---------------

MediaInfo might give more info, even if it doesn't the more info the better 👍 -

The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this -

--------------

A picture of Pan/Crop window with all the settings on the left displayed, like this.

Share a pic of your Project Video Properties & Preferences - File IO settings

Also can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & put your PC specs in My Signature, these will then show at the bottom of your comments.

Did you file a support request? This is a very unusual issue and maybe some incompatibly with the UHD730 that could be worked out. What CPU is this? I don't see hardware info in your signature.

@RogerS

Already did so.

Also, it genuinely CAN'T be my CPU, like, yeah, it might be a more budget-end Intel i5 processor, but it's apparently only like 2 years old. And it also worked perfectly fine with VEGAS 22, so they couldn't have made that many changes behind the scenes in the latest version, especially with all the updates and patches each one receives regularly.

............ so they couldn't have made that many changes behind the scenes in the latest version, especially with all the updates and patches each one receives regularly.

@McRyanGold Yep they certainly have made some changes.

I've got a separate post where I'm asking about slow rendering speeds in VP23,

------------

Just as a simple test I rendered one of my unedited files, dragged onto the timeline, no fxs or changes & rendered it.

UHD, MP4 HEVC 30GOP Constant. 3.51min long video.

In  VP22 it took 2.29mins to render.

In VP23 that same unedited file took 7.10mins to render

I'm testing the Trial version but I'm not upgrading until this is fixed, so I'm sticking with VP22.

----------

PS. @Reyfox asked for a sample, that sample needs to be the orig uploaded to a file sharing site like Google Drive, he & others can then test it on their PC's. This will determine if it's the file or your PC.

It can be the CPU, which doesn't mean anything is wrong with it but VEGAS may not properly support it. Please share the model with us and support.

There have been massive changes since VP 22. Note that the build number that VP 22 ended on was 250 and the one 23 started on was 278! With your help we can get it working.
