preview screen blank?

nothing is showing up in my preview screen, i have no idea what to do. what am i doing wrong?

Check if you've muted a video track, or maybe got external preview selected.

This often happens to me and after checking everything the only option is to quit and re-run:-(

I've found that you can try rewinding the footage and then playing to get the preview to work. After that, if it doesn't do it, then save, load another file or pick a new one, and reload the original that you were working on. Preview should come back on.

Check the compositing mode on the video track.
