Preview Video Window creating multiple layers randomly on the screen.

Build 239

Preview Video Window creating multiple layers randomly on the screen. And Menus turn white.

Hello all. I just spent a bunch on a new desktop build and monitor setup.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K Processor

MSI Pro Z890-S WiFi Motherboard

32GB T-Force Delta RGB Memory

4TB WD_Black SN850X NVMe SSD (Operating System)

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Operating System

34" Alienware OLED AW3423DFW Monitor

I can now have half the screen to the right as my preview window and my editing window to the left. Awesome. No two monitors.

See pics, weird multiple layered previews show up even when no file opened, layers just appear then disappear randomly even when no project opened. Preview is set to the Nvidia but I tried every preview setting in Preferences and nothing changes. Everything else works flawlessly so far, just annoying layered preview window.

I wasn't able to replicate this. Any set of steps to trigger it?

Reyfox wrote on 2/26/2025, 4:32 AM

I've never seen this one and it doesn't happen on my computer build listed in my Signature.

I have undocked the Preview window and moved it all over my main monitor. Docked it in various locations and even moved it to my second monitor. Everything worked as it should.

You have an iGPU and a GPU. Which is being used in Options>Preferences>Video tab and File I/O tab?

Yes and even tried both the studio and the gamer drivers, no diff. Since I can switch to the Intel GPU in
Vegas Preferences and get the same problem I don't think its the graphics card.

I have a 4060 here and haven't seen this and don't know how to replicate it, though happy to try if you have any clues.

I'm using an older NVIDIA driver with the driver settings on default. I also have an Intel iGPU.

SOLVED! Windows settings, Personalization, Colors, Transparency Effects was turned on, switched it off and the problem goes away. Switching it on and off makes the layers appear. Once off it stops.

Thanks for that- I hated that setting as it made the borders non-neutral colors which really doesn't help if you're trying to color correct anything!

Reyfox wrote on 2/27/2025, 4:46 AM

Glad it was solved. Still, I wonder how many have it "on" (like me) and do not suffer from that issue, and are using Nvidia.

It only happens when the Preview window is separated from the editing window. I don’t think it’s a Nvidia issue. Try separating the review window and go into Personalization and toggle that transparency switch on and off. It affects that preview window.

Odd, I don't see that with transparency effects on and the preview window separated and put on either screen. I'm using 24H2 and the RTX 4060 mobile.
