Previewing through S-Video to TV

Using SONY VEGAS 6 Movie Studio
I am trying to send the Preview out to a TV through the S-Video output on my video card, but can't seem to make it work.
Under OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>PREVIEW DEVICE there's drop down menu that only has 1394/DV as a choice and I have turned on the preview external monitor.

With the settings on my video card I can "clone" and "extend" the screen to the TV, but it seems I can't get the preview to work.

I did undock the viewing area and slide it over to the TV, but it's not the same.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Vegas' only external preview path used to be firewire out. With the full version of Vegas 6 you can now use a secondary display screen as well. I don't know if that feature has made it into the Studio version or not; from what you're saying it would appear not. In order to make this work you'll have to have some sort of DV->analog converter connected to the firewire port. Often a DV or Digital-8 camcorder will perform this job well if you don't want to buy a dedicated device.

Thanks,
What sort of device did they have in mind to preview with using firewire? A monitor?

Basically any video screen that you care to connect. Once you've sent the firewire signal into a DV->A/V converter you can connect whatever the converter supplies: composite, S-Video, component, even RF to a TV if you have a modulator such as a VCR.
