Go to best value.com I think that they must be having some type of clearance. I wish I had waited and bought mine but not complaining still worth the price that I paid.

Vegas is worth over $1000 if you ask me. It's worth it for any price you get it for.

I'm not complaining about the price (I bought it at Best Buy). My question is why is there such a big difference - its a factor of three. I would pefer to buy products such as Vegas Vedio directly from the companies that make them. Why should I contribute to Best Buy's stock value when the real money should be going to the developers and designers (ok, managers too) of the product. But I would be just a little ticked off, if after paying close to $500 for a download of Vegas Video, only to find it at Best Buy for $149!

My bet revolves around 2 issues:
a) I get the impression the Best Buy isn't moving some of these products as well as they'd like. When SF 5 was released, Best Buy had it for $350. It worked it's way down over the last few months, and now sits at $150. I'll bet Vegas was the same way, so they're just trying to unload them.
b) Maybe Vegas 3 is closer than we think... and they're just trying to make way for it!

I see your point dsanders. I'd much rather see every penny I pay for Vegas go right to Sonic Foundry, but no one wants to pay hundreds more for the same thing just to buy direct from SF. To me it makes no sense for SF to keep the price way up there when they could sell more Vegas's direct if they reduced the price so it was at least close to the 'market' value, but I'm not a businessman, so... I'll just stay blissfully confused. :)

It's a deal! How's about it SF? Can I download Vegas Video for $79 please?

Where did you get it for $79? Directly from Sonic Foundry? Their price is not even close to this!
fosko wrote on 8/28/2001, 10:45 AM
Well, My Vegas Audio came bundled with my Delta 1010. And there was a coupon to upgrade to vegas Video for $79.

LOL . .funny thing is, I originally was looking for a Delta withOUT Vegas becasue I had Cubase and wanted to save some $$$,
but the deal I fianlly found was cheaper with Vegas than other places without. But now that I have it . .MAN it's NICE :-)

Unfortunalty, I don't think Vegas comes packaged with Delta any more. They sem to have a deal with Logic.

i see your point gg, but the cost of allowing me to download Vegas from their world wide website is far lower than the cost of cd replication, packaging, printed manual, shipping, shelf space, etc... All that extra expense and SF still has to deal with the customer if he/she has a problem. That's what Sonic Foundry customer support is for. No one goes to Best Buy to find out how to get their Delta whatever to work without pops and clicks in Vegas.

And their internet site IS worldwide, not localized. The point about worldwide distribution only applies to the boxed version of the product. Purchasing and downloading Vegas doesn't even require any human interaction. it's completely automated. It can't possibly cost SF $300+ more per sale to handle their own sales of Vegas over the internet as opposed to distributing via places like Best Buy...?

I'm glad Vegas is sitting on the shelves at Best Buy for such a low price. The product get's more market penetration and in the end we all benefit from that. But I personally see no benefit to buying my copy of Vegas from them EXCEPT the cost. They have no concept of customer service, no expertise in the desktop video market... I'd much rather buy direct from SF and I did a long time ago, but given the choice now, I'd go to Best Buy solely for the huge cost savings. If it was only $100 more to buy the direct download I'd do it.

You must be on to something though GG, because SF hasn't reduced their prices so they obviously don't want to make any sales over the net. Some products don't need boxes, plastic, paper, gasoline guzzling delivery trucks, and valuable space on store shelves. Music, software, someday movies...

So there's two reasons for SF to start pricing their downloadable products competitively:
1. direct download sales mean more $$ to SF
2. environmental costs are diminished

OK, Dont know if this will drive the price up . .but as of this posting there's a 'sealed' copy of VV 2.0 on Ebay for $37.00 at the link below.

Yea. My Best Buy also has Vegas for $150...and also Acid Pro 3.0 for $150! Can't beat that...well, I say that now, but it's worth it, eh?!

Vegas 3 is coming soon. If SF still has a pretty good backstock of boxed Vegas still waiting for distribution, it makes sense (for them, anyway) to slash the retail cost to $150, but to keep the DL cost higher, in the short term. That way they're not stuck with a bunch of out-of-date boxed software. This would also be a plausible reason to delay release of the new stuff, although an even better reason is to make sure it works really, really well.

It only drove it up to $200+ - more than best buy?!!!!
DeltaDesigns wrote on 9/27/2001, 11:22 PM
Wow, you can get it from their web site + shipping (I think) for that price by going HERE. At first, I thought you were talking about VideoFactory. Great deal!

I'm just wondering if I should go buy it. I am a VF2.0 user, and the only thing I see that would be useful to me (and VERY useful at that) is having the unlimited tracks. Is there anything else that I am missing that makes the $150 purchase a no-brainer?
Rockaway17 wrote on 9/28/2001, 7:11 AM
You probably should buy it. The unlimited tracks is a great feature, but I'd say the best thing to get it for would be to get a discount on the upgrade price of Vegas 3. That way, you're upgrading from Vegas 2 to Vegas 3, instead of all-out buying Vegas 3 from scratch. It'll save you money, probably.
pacho wrote on 9/28/2001, 9:21 AM
I did buy VV2.0 and I have VF1.0.
It is definitely worth it.

You get many more Audio and Video FX.
Video tracks composition - one track can be added to another.

Unlimited tracks is a must for serious editing.

I love it. I am glad I found it for $150 otherwise I would not be able to afford it and was thinking about buying Premiere6 - which is $250 for students.

SF definitely gained one more loyal customer now.
