Primatte Studio bundled with VP19 PRO .. limitations

I never used BorisFX products so I was unaware that the Primatte Studio that comes bundled with VP19 PRO will only be licensed on one machine at a time. In my workflow, I run Vegas on my laptop and my PC. This is no problem. But Magix neglected to tell us that this will not work with Primatte. Did they realize it? Hard to tell. But either way, not cool.

Sooooooooo ... for anyone who knows.

1) How much more $$$ to get Primatte running on two machines?

2) Is it easy, fast and reliable to "deactivate" Primatte and then "activate" on a different machine?

Boris FX Primatte Studio is clearly presented as a part of Vegas Pro 19. So if the Vegas Pro licence includes two installations, it of course should be possible to install the whole Vegas Pro package (including Boris FX Primatte Studio) in two computers.

Thanks Grazie .. hope you and your "monster" are doing well .. Just started a little story film that was shot entirely with Green screen .. I was going to use NewBlue Chroma Key Pro but testing out Primatte it seems to be a bit better .. but NewBlue might run smoother on my old machine. Decisions!!!

Could not agree more .. or at LEAST make the limitations known to the buyer.

Boris has always been one installation use only. Even if you own any of the products. I wanted to update my internal C: drive.... figure, I would be able to install some Boris plugins since it was in the same computer. Nope...

I'd have to deactivate and reactive, or something like that, so I just started removing "stuff" from the "old" C: drive to free up space.

Boris does have something called BorisFX Application Manager where you can activate/deactivate, but never used it. I believe you will have to log into your Boris account to download. I did.

Or.... what you can do is contact sales and ask them how much for an additional license. I've found them very generous in discounting....

I deactivated on my PC .. then activated on my Laptop .. it worked .. Primatte runs better on the laptop as it is actually more up to date with a better video card than my PC .. But, despite the hassle, it is usable for me as long as "deactivate" and "activate" are entirely automated, and reliable .. The problem will be that I forget to deactivate before leaving home to work on my laptop.

I will ask BorisFX about now much money to obtain a second license for just the Primatte Studio ... thanks Reyfox for that tip.

For what it's worth, I noticed that once Primatte is activated, it is available in Vegas Pro 18 too .. I have not tried other versions. That's a plus for legacy projects needing work on chroma keys. I already fixed a single chroma key scene that looked lousy when using the Vegas Chroma Key. Now, using Primatte, with just the "auto analyze" applied, the scene looks way cleaner. I'm pleased.

@xberk I have Continuum Complete 2021, and it is active in all versions of Vegas Pro that I had on my computer at one time. VP14, 15, 16,17 and 18. Heck, it's even in Resolve 17 Studio and Video Pro X since they too use OFX plugins. I only have VP17, 18 and running trial on 19, where it is also present.

I've fond the times I contacted Boris sales people, that they were very helpful and considerate. Considering how much is in Continuum Complete, you might consider that option if they offer a decent upgrade price. No harm in asking them. But still, it can only be used on one computer at a time.

According to Boris FX FAQ's Vegas users can upgrade to full Continuum for $395.

It's an amazing and often overwhelming plugin... so much to it. I've spent "useless" hours with just Particle Illusion with it's hundreds (or is it thousands) of presets...

IF, for whatever reason, it isn't sufficient, I would urge you to consider Fxhome's Ignite Pro Plugin.

Or, if by any chance you have an older version of VEGAS POST, Effects pretty much has the same world class keying

Re BorisFX's Back Friday offer, it's worth keeping in mind that for at least the last 2 years, the sale applies to one product purchase only.
