Print to HDV tape "Device Unavailable" Why?

I want to master my HD project back to HDV using a Z1U camera as a recorder.

After selecting "Print Video To HDV Tape..." the window comes up and I get Device Unavailable. The Z1U is not listed in the pulldown.

It also is "Unavailable" if I try to capture HDV from the tape. Vegas simply is not seeing the HDV camcorder. It is listed in the Device Manager as an imaging device and Windows reports is it functioning normally.

The same device works fine if I master back to Standard Def using the "Print Video To Tape" option directly above the HDV option in Tools.

Can the HDV capture/print utility be corrupted? How would I fix that?

What am I doing wrong? I've restarted Vegas and restarted the camera and plugged and unplugged the firewire cable. It won't show up in the device list.

Thanks

you may need to re-point your drivers for Sound/Video/Game controllers to the Sony DVHS drivers.
Also check your firewire cable; 4 pin cables are notorious for going bad.

It's finally responding. I did change out the 4-pin Firewire cable but it wasn't the problem.

I cold-restarted the computer and the Z1U still didn't show up in Vegas, so I went through the camera's "In/Out Rec" menu selectively and changed each step just for the heck of it.

After I turned off the "A/V to DV Out" function in the camera's menu, the camera finally listed in Vegas.

Funny thing is, after I turned "AV to DV Out" back on, the Z1U remained visible to Vegas.

Tis a mystery....

If you had the cam set to Auto, and then put in a DV tape but later opened the HDV capture tool, it may not have correctly updated the cam when you put in the next HDV tape.
I generally leave the deck in HDV mode, as Auto switching between HDV and DV mode can mess with either Vegas or Premiere.
