Depends on how much RAM you have....But you'll always have a more reliable PTT with rendering to HD.
But you shouldn't be seeing blue, period. Ever. That indicates other problems.

Defragged the system drive, put the avi I am PTT on another drive, and just when i thought that it was solid, BAAZM- A 1 sec blue screen (hesitation) in the middle of my 2 hr video. I even stopped most services running for this run, I am about to give. I have always PTT from the timeline, maybe using the capture utility is more reliable?

I have found the capture utility more reliable ever since V3, and for me it still is.

Tried PTT from timeline the other day and there were a couple of audio drop outs, so I won't try again. Apart from the sporadic nature of the dropouts, I don't want to have to sit, listen and concentrate hard during this process - it should be a simple transfer of data.

If you are printing from a Firewire drive, you should consider installing the patch described here::

Firewire 1394 Solutions

I had one computer, running Windows ME, not XP, that had problems if any of the power saving options were enabled (go to Control Panel, Display, Screen Saver, Power to change). I doubt this is a problem with your setup, but it only takes a moment to change.

I assume you have a fairly recent version of DirectX installed (the Windows media drivers). You can check by clicking on Start -> Run and then typing: msinfo32, and press enter. Click on Tools and then select the DirectX diagnostic tool. The first page will tell you what you have installed, and the other pages will tell you if you have any problems. You should have a version 9 installed, although the various version 8 updates should work as well. Anything earlier, and you should upgrade.
