Print to tape

Hi
Looked all over the forum, still stumped. I want to copy a finished, completely edited movie (used Vegas Movie Studio) back to the tape in my camcorder ( Canon HV30) so I can hook the camera up to a TV for those who don't have a DVD player. I read the camera instructions on dubbing..it does not work. I tried DVD Architect, still not working. Is this impossible to do or am I missing something? Is there a special rendering for it to work?

Any help is appreciated

Render the movie to DV .avi, the same format that you captured from the camcorder. Put the camera in VCR mode connected to firewire. Use VidCap's Print-to-tape feature, adding the finished rendered DV .avi file.

In my program I just go to the MAKE MOVIE menu selection at the top of the screen .. and choose .. "Save it to your DV camera"

Of course you need a DV camera with tape connected via firewire. I believe the camera needs to be in VCR mode to do this .. it will automatically change to Record mode when necessary.

Can you not just print to tape from the timeline without having to go through a separate render?

You can, but there may have to be rendering done anyway, and Vegas will have to do this before the print-to-tape operation starts. I've had some cases where the delay was long enough that the camcorder decided to shut off and then Vegas wouldn't recognize it even after i turned it back on.

Vegas also doesn't seem to be as efficient at sending the data out the firewire port and i get occasional gaps and skips. VidCap never messes up.

Hello there, I've been messing about all evening trying to export a Hi Def project to the HV30. It does seem to work for me but I find I'm getting drop outs when the file which you create is playing out to the HV30. I did notice that if you start the HV30 recording too early before it realised there is hi def footage coming through the firewire port it tends to drop out of record mode straight away, so wait for the footage to appear on the HV30 screen before you press the play/pause on the screen. hope this helps a bit.
I do seem to have footage recorded on the HV30 but with the dreaded drop outs as well.
I forgot to mention I am a new user and am using the new Platinum 9 version.
Cheers,
Graham

Well I tried everything and was partially successful. First I rendered the original file in DV .avi (I didn't understand what you meant by : The same format that I captured from the camcorder, Chienworks) and my camera was not recognized when using VidCap's Print-to-tape option. It was however, recognized when I used the Movie Menu and chose "Save it to your DV camera", as brighterside mentioned. Then it told me that 80% of the clip needed to be re-rendered (????), I clicked ok and it started to render. When it was done it automatically started the camera and recorded the results and although it rendered in 720X480 Aspect Ratio, the final clip when viewed through the TV was squashed and skinny, way out of proportion. My head is about to explode, wonder if I'll ever get it. Sure would be nice to have a step by step, from capturing to recording back to tape, once the editing is done.
