Is there a way to use the pass-through method to print directly to a tape in a vcr? I dont want to print to the tape in my dv camera.
Does some body know how to do it?
Yes, you can. First hook your VCR to the output of your camera and the camera to your firewire port. Then when you go to print to tape and the Video Capture program comes up, you have to go into Options-->Preferences and uncheck Enable DV device control. This will stop the capture program from try to control you DV camera. It will now play through the DV camera without having to put a tape in it. (Don’t forget to turn it back on when you want to print to DV tape again.)
One more question... Does my camera, which happens to be Sony DCR-TRV330, have to be in A/V->DV or DV IN in order to record to the VCR?
I suspect that it is DV IN; if that's the case, I think there must be something wrong with my Audio/Video port. By the way, that port is a In/Out port, isn't it?
I have followed your instructions, and still it does not record to the vcr. I will try it again.
Thanks JohnnyRoy
I don’t know about your Sony DCR-TRV330 but my Panasonic camcorder has a physical switch on it. In one position the pass-through is IN and in the other it is OUT. So one plug labeled IN/OUT serves two purposes but only one at a time. Perhaps you have a menu item somewhere that determines the pass-through mode? I have to switch modes based on whether I’m doing an analog capture from a VCR or printing back to VHS tape.
JR ~ Not all PAL Cammies allow for this type of work. It's a taxation thing. VCRs are VCRs - Cammies are Cammies. UK Government or the EC [ European Community ] recognise that extra bit of taxation to be obtained from making a difference - yeah? But my PAL Canon XM2 has pass thru' and other way too. Pannies may not have this - IF this user has a PAL - yeah?

I think it's the other way round - taxation to be obtained from - cameras with DV-IN can be taxed as VCRs, hence it's often disabled to reduce the price. I believe the European TRV330s do have DV-IN enabled though.
Yea, I think that was input that is disabled in Europe. I don’t think you can sell a camcorder where everyone has to huddle around the viewfinder (or 2” LCD screen) to view a video as a family. Every camcorder in the world that doesn’t use VHS tape MUST allow you to view the output on a TV. Therefore, you should be able to make a tape on your VCR by the same means. What may be a problem is if the camcorder will not route the input live from firewire back out to the TV output. So you may have to record to tape first and then play back to the VCR.
