print to tape leaving empty spots on tape

i don't know the exact term for this, but i'm printing to tape, and there's some places where nothing is printed on the tape. it's less than a second and isn't black space, but like nothing is on the tape.

i've done several attempts and it happens in random spots. i used my head cleaner and same problem. i tried different brand new tapes and same problem. i rebooted and same problem.

i taped some footage on the camcorder and that worked fine, so it doesn't seem to be the print head.

any clues on what is going on? this is with vegas 5.

Perhaps your camera and tapes are fine, but your firewire card is hiccuping because of a conflict. Did this just start happening? I had something similiar occur randomly after moving my firewire card to a different PCI slot. Moved it back, haven't had the problem since.

sorry, i meant to post how what i've done. i rendered my project to ntsc dv avi. i then added that to a new project then did a PTT. when that failed several times, i used vegas capture and tried PTT using that. both have the same problems.

greg - PTT was working fine with vegas 4, but i haven't done it for about 6 months. my hardware is still the same, but i have reloaded windows xp pro since then. also, my sound card has a firewire port and i also have a USB2/fireware combo PCI card. the problem happens using either firewire connection.

still no luck with this. i might put vegas 4 back on my system and see if it works with that. anyone else have any suggestions what might be going on? i haven't loaded any special drivers for my firewire ports - just using the windows xp ones.

If you have any other devices (besides the camera) connected to Firewire, try again with them disconnected.
