I've got VF2.0c build 125 [the latest update]. When I PTT, I get an error message telling me I've got build 98. Anybody getting this? What build is VF Capture? Is it different to VF build 125?
I opened my VidCap 2.5 program (VF) and it is (Ver. 2.5) Build 98.
I also opened my VidCap 3 program (Vegas) and it is Build 107.
Both programs will open by themselves, VF or Vegas do not have to be up and running. Does that make sense?
I remember reading somewhere here that you can download the Vegas demo and use VidCap 3 (separately) for capturing and PTT. I'm not sure if this is true, but maybe Cheinworks will confirm this. (hint) :)
Hope this helps some. What error are you getting with your VidCap?
Let me know if I didn't make any sense here, I just got off the graveyard shift, so I have that 'eyes glazed over' look about now (Uffda)!
"So, what has changed on your computer that you got this error? I'm guessing you have not always had this error?" - To answer this if I knew what it was I would rectify or dump it. I must say I've always had this problem and in desperation have used Studio7 to PTT instead - no problem. Except, I would reeeeealy like to use the ability of VF to "chain" greater than 4gb files to PTT - know what I mean?
"Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall VF?? (Sorry if this is a basic question)." No, I haven't tried to "uninstall/reinstall VF" - it is a basic question and one I appreciate you asking. I was told by SF not to unistall the demo and to just "overlay my bought version. Ditto when I downloaded the build 125 update. Anyway, I can capture and edit and I can make AVIs [PALs] in VF - great - and then import them into Studio7.
Helpp......!

My VF capture is build 98 also. It works fine. I don't know what those errors are unless the files you are opening (the AVI's) are corrupted in some way. Sorry can't help much.
YOu can output chained 4 gig files in Studio by starting a project and dragging each file to the timeline. (just a thought).
I use both VF and Studio 7 with no problems so I can't help much on specific issues like this.
"YOu can output chained 4 gig files in Studio by starting a project and dragging each file to the timeline. (just a thought)." I guessed as much. What is really odd is that in S7 the same vid clips don't produce a problem... hmmmmm....
However, I'm one of those guys who really want to be in control of the things I'm doing. Knowing that VF Rocks is even more reason for me to want to know what is going on.
I'd really like SF to take note of my problem and have oner of their nice support team to "come across" with an answer.
Grazie, I could be way off mark but as Tescos says 'Every little helps'...
I've used VW5, S7 and finally VF. What I found to start when I had more than one editing suite on hd was I occasionally got unspecified errors in various functions. I know many folks have more than one suite on their hd's with no probs, but... having read posts in other forums where others have had probs with more than one suite on board I think possibly functions in different suites can cause conflicts. I don't specifically know why, but just as an example some people who've had probs with more than one suite have uninstalled all suites and reinstalled in a different order than previous and this has cured the errors. I did say I could be way off mark, but maybe worth a try.
I had a couple of thoughts also, one of which runs along the lines of Laz's post. I had problems with CD burner access, which I finally traced down to a "multiple package" issue. I found that if I didn't load VF and NERO in the correct order, VF seemed to have trouble seeing the burner. I suppose it had to do with one driver overwriting another. Perhaps your problem is a similar issue.
The other thought that occured to me was that I had originally had trouble capturing from my AVDC-100/VHS VCR combo, until I disabled the "Control DV Device" function in Video Factory.
VF thinks that an a/d converter is a digital camera, and tries to control it. The problem I had stemmed from the fact that the ADVC-100 had no intention of listening to any such silliness, and VF became very confused as a result. If you have not already done so, try disabling the control option.
Sorry I haven't been back ealier, but have been defraging my VF exdternal drive - 60gb in 9 hours? Is that about right?
Anyway, I seem to be on a winner.... Ahem:-
1. Used WinME Maintenace wizard - got rid of temp, trashed and web files.
2. After several experiments with "msconfig" noticed that my Norton - yes folks you can hear it coming can't yer! - Internet Protection refused to be disabled. Sooooo I purposefully manually disabled it! Msconfig would NOT listened to my commands on disabling it. - Hey that's protection!
NOW:-
I can at least "activate" my PTT procedure without the dreaded "Exception Error" and long-winded indicypherable [ for me anyway ] message. I can "Preview" the PTT clip and I can Preview it in the "Monitor" option.
Yes I make sure that DV Device Control is not selected, even though this procedure is not mentioned in Manual. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, when I stream the clip via my Hollywood Dazzle I get, not just frames dropped - I can live with this - but whole seconds of missing "footage". This happens AFTER I have previewed it once. Then I get this drop off. I must say the Dazzle performs admirably on Capture and when sending file PTT, the indcator lamp remains "Green" for okay. This "break" in streaming I can only put down to the AVI PTT file being "fragged-up" [oooh I like that - fragged-up!] and then being slewed again when I then re-preview to the Hollywood Dazzle. Sooooo I've defragged the disc that had the "problem" AVI PTT file.
I'll see how it goes and let y'll know.
BUT, and again THANKS everybody... I've taken on board what you all have said -esp. the business about have different NLEs - and the load order.
Please hold thumbs for me - or whatever you do to asauge the NLE Demons!
9 hrs for a defrag may be fairly long. This handy utility called Power Defrag might speed things up; http://www.e-technik.com/
Some people say Norton utilities are uncompatible with some progs and can cause errors, but I don't know for sure. I uninstalled mine due to unspecified errors and went for Zonealarm for a firewall (but some people have other preferences) and for antivirus I use a free version of AVG; http://www.grisoft.com. It's horses for courses on protection utilities.
I am getting somewhere with your and everybody's help and suggestions. I've even been able to get to 99% system resources! Is this a record over the Bar!
My versions are identical to yours.
The suggestions mentioned here (order of load, other programs conflicting, etc.), sound like the problem.
I'm running XP. No antivirus (goofs me up each time it kicks in and I'm streaming), no screen saver, nothing background...
The error messages may only be meaningful to those folks that created VF so hopefully THEY can give clues.
But, as UN-useful as this may be (hee, hee), I'd probably do the drastic thing and completely uninstall VF and re-install. If I still saw the problem, backup all important files, do a clean install of OS and the first thing installed after OS, would be VF. Check to see if problem still exists. Then gradually begin installing other programs.
Under XP I have an environment dedicated exclusively to Video Editing. This environ has no Antivirus running, no Screen Saver, nothing "background". Just the OS and VF. Things seem to run very well for me.
