Print to tape - system crashes in middle

When I print an .avi file to DV tape, it starts recording but the system crashes and displays the following error message: Fatal exception 006 has occurred at 0000:00000063.
The file was rendered using the default NTSC DV settings. The file size is 1.3GB and the movie length is approx. 5.5 minutes. (I actually have two files loaded to print -- the second one is 800mb, but the print to tape function can not complete the first file.)
During my first attempt at printing, approx. 1.5 minutes were recorded when it crashed. The next time, it went for 2.5 minutes. The next try, it recorded over 3 minutes, and the last try recorded 4.5 minutes before crashing.
All background programs are shut down during the printing process.
I am using Windows 98se, 356mb RAM, PII 650mhz, with a 120gb ext. Western Digital Firewire HD, WD Firewire Cardbus, and a Canon Elura DV camcorder.
In the past, I have successfully printed an avi file to tape that was 2GB using this exact same configuration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I promised my daughter her school video project would be ready tomorrow but I can't lay it off to tape!)

Thanks for your legwork. I tried to REM out Norton AntiVirus in autoexec.bat, but I still have the same problems. As I mentioned, NAV and ZoneAlarm are disabled before printing to tape. I did forget to mention that the only change to my system has been the installation of an HP Deskjet 960 printer.

Further to my last post, I uninstalled the HP printer and now the print-to-tape works fine... although I don't have a printer to use!

Welcome to the wonderful world of HP. When you have the lions share of a market (printer). you tend to get a little arrogant. I've seen a lot of strange things happen after HP loaded all their drivers and software on a machine.

Glad you got it figured out, Hell hath no fury like a daughter disappointed.

Do you have norton for anti-virus by chance?

If so it may have been a conflict with
norton, and your HP printer install.

Try this, open norton, go to options,
look in the upper left hand corner,
and click on script blocking, and
uncheck "enable script blocking"
Then give it a try.

It worked for me with a similar issue
and I was able to keep my printer.

BTW, when you finish you can go back and
re-tick the script blocking.

There are 2 small apps that I *always* use before rendering (in fact, I better use them for all my video activities...)
First is EndItAll. It unloads all the tasks from memory (except the ones that you "exclude") and leaves you with a clean environment (Explorer+Systray+Vegas).
Second is RamBooster. It "defragments" memory (meaning that it liberates chunks of memory that were grabbed by old procedures).
I have 512MB of memory. When I load VV3 and then run EndItAll+RamBooster I end up with 81% free resources. Not bad.

Is there a difference between (1) loading Windows with a user profile that only launches the essential items and (2) having EndItAll close everything down?
