Print to Tape yet again

I have Athalon 500 system with Early Fic MB (VIA chipset I Believe) win 98SE. Same problem as JASON CRAIN
20/12/2000 posting only in PAL DV (Australia). Any project rendered in any other editing program say
Videostudio Prints to tape fine from the VF Capture program. Any unaltered project that I Save As or
Render in Video Factory when opened to VF Capture to Print to tape will give the same results as For
Dave, first frameof my video shows up on flip out screen OF Camcorder, then Flickers between Blue Screen, project,
nothing blue
scren etc. The Playback mode does the same thing precisely as Jasons problem only I use Pal. All camcorder control
and all works exactly as it is supposed to. Any Captured file Prints to
Tape fine as long as I havent put it through VF. I have gotten into changing the property settings and
the codecs with no result. If I render a project in VF ( which cosequently does not print to tape, and
rerender the VF output in VideoStudio and save that as a final video then open that in the VF Capture
it will print to tape no problems.
Further I have noticed that the Video Studio file properties come up as 720x576x24 and the project
properties that display in the Preveiw window of VF are 720x576x32 I think this means that the
VideoStudio files are rendered in 24 Bit pixels and VF is rendering in 32 bit pixels ???
I am a novice at this so be gentle with me please.
I feel that the problem lies in VF rendering rather than the Capture utility. Please help me as I am at
my witas end having struggled for 2wks without a printed project to show for it
Camcorder is Sony TRV 320E (Digital ) Firewire card from Swann Comunications unknown make but
seems to work ok

Hi Kestutis...please see post 115 about known problems with
Via chipset systems. Also, do you have DirectX 8
installed? Because you need DirectX 8 for the MSDV driver
to support PAL devices. Does your DV device show up in
Video Capture's Video menu as "Microsoft DV Camera and
VCR"? Also, are you using a SCSI hard drive or IDE hard
drive (DMA enabled?)?

Thanks Dee for your reply. I have read posting 115 and all the other related postings available. This
problem and the link relates to WinMe and I run Win98SE so I thought it would not help me correct
me if I am wrong. I do run DirectX 8 and even prior to installing DX 8 I was having no problems
controlling the Camera and yes "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" does up show up in Video captures
Video menu. I may not understand but I dont see how it can be a chipset problem when other projects
rendered in other editing programs ie Video Studio 4 print to tape fine through the Video Factory
Capture utility or do these programs operate diferently to Video Factory in the way they render ? As for
my hard drives they are IDE but I'm unsure if they are DMA enabled or not. My Control pannel search
does not give me the option to set this parameter or should I be looking in the bios to set this.
I have asked Sonic tech support for help but they just replied telling me to install VEGAS VIDEO builb
2.0 and I replied gladly if they proposed to send me the program.....no reply from them as yet!

Thanks,
Kes

Hip hooray Chocolates and Flowers to you Dee, I found the DMA option setting in Control pannel
Systems Disk controlers, and once I enabled this the Print to tape function worked like a charm. I know
it was this because I then went back and deselected this option and the glitchy performance returned. I
have no idea how this Direct Memory acess works nor why it makes no diference with Video Studio 4
but who cares I'll let the likes of you keep those secrets. Perhaps the first thing any VF users with Print
to tape problems should do is ensure that the Disk Drive DMA option is selected
