Is it possible to print to tape (via DV) from the timeline if you pre-render the whole timeline? Or do you have to render the whole thing to an AVI and use sfVidCap to print to tape? I don't see anyway to get Vegas to send audio to the DV device..
You are probably noticing the lack of audio while previewing. Under tools is an option to "Print to Tape". This will include the audio. Anything that isn't straight, unaltered DV footage will still have to be rendered. In any case, Vegas will render the audio from the entire timeline to .W64 even if it's already DV compliant.
...then what happens, do you need your camera plugged in at this point, e.g. where does the rendered file go to, etc. I previously attempted a print to tape and my system said 80% of the video or what have you needed to be rendered(this went on for 6 hours)...it was rendering AVI's (268 of them) where did they go. I was under the impression my camera would start running /receiving said video to tape in cam since it instructed me to hit my rec button on the cam.
The program is doing a temporary render into your temp disk.
The best way to PTT is to render your project to a new track first. When you PTT from this new AVI file, the program doesn't have to do any additional rendering and it's a straight print to tape. It also gives you an opportunity to review the final AVI before sending it to tape.
finally figured out how to print to tape...although my photo montage compiled with (UltimateS 2) did not show up (black on the timeline, albeit with the correct audio. After the photo montage area had played (black) it continued on to my reception partion of the video...any suggestions?
Here is how to Print to Tape using Vegas (for anyone interested):
1_Turn on the cam on PLay Back Mode(its stays thougout the Print to tape process in this mode).
2-Open Vegas and import the Clip/Project you want to print to tape.
3-Mark In and Out the Clips you want to Print to tape on Vegas time line By using "I" for marking IN and "O" for marking OUT , and in this case you Click "I" at the start and "O" at the end of the Project in your time line ..
2-Click on Tools > Print Video to tape >
select PAL or NTSC and select Render loop Region only and click Next
Chose SMPTE Bars(PAL/NTSC) then chose the Colour Bars duration , meaning for how long would you like the bars to appear before the Video Starts , then Click on Next.
now Chose Crash Recording and then Finish and your done , now Vegas will do everything automaticly , it will start Rendering then will output the video threw the Firewire to your cam , you should see the Video on your LCD screen , just make sure the cam is on Play Back Mode.
