Pro 8 audio not sync'd

I have used Premier Elements 2.0 for my Sony DVD camcorder and now have Pro 8 for my XR500V. When I tried to simply import with no editing, a VOB file from the disc and render to WMV or even MPEG-2, the audio was behind about 1 second. The Audio track was extended past the video and was even with the video at the start.

I simply added the track to the timeline, then rendered the entire clip and saved as either file and the same happened.

Now I tried to import another clip, and in the timeline I have the video but only about 1/4 or the audio. Obviously this is likely user-error but I will answer as many questions as I can. My system is an AMD Opteron 180 dual-core, 4 GB RAM DDR-2, 320 GB HD, 8800 GT Graphics.

The audio doesn't gradually get out of sync, from the start, frame rate is 29.97 and I switched the audio frequency to no avail.

I imported from the I drive and when I tried the import from DVD I simply just gave up as the import time was looking like an hour....for a 1.5 GB import. Why it's slow I don't know but until Iget my 1090T built I would like to use this system for time being.

can't help much, but you're importing avchd (which is a pita). which version of 8 are you using?

oh, and how are you importing?

How are you importing?

File->Import->DVD Camcorder Disc is the recommended method, not dragging the VOB to the timeline.

I'm confused. The camera in question (XR500V) records AVCHD to internal flash memory, how did VOB files get into the act?

Assuming that's just something muddled up and we are talking about files from the Sony XR500V and they are AVCHD then.... I've had this same problem with some AVCHD files and V9.0d. It was fixed in V9.0e. I'd suggest downloading the trial version of V9 and see if the problem goes away.

You should import the video files to you computer using PMB then use explorer to drag the files to your timeline for the events you want to use. I've never had a problem with sound being out of sync with Vegas Pro 8.

Sorry about the confusion there....I'm importing currently the VOB files from my DVD-405 only to render and burn to a disc, not the XR500 yet.

Tried the AVCHD file, which was about a minute and my PC just isn't up to that amount of data yet.....way too long to render.

Back to the VOB, I first tried with NEW, OPEN, My Computer, DVD drive I, then the individual VOB file. It loaded the clip and without touching it here's what I was talking about.

Been doing this for a few years on Adobe so i'm somewhat familiar, could you explain the PMB process?

Also the imported VOB file is straight from the disc, has been finalized, and simply placed in the timeline by the program. I have the Tutorial disc also and I think I will be watching it tonight :)

8.0b has some issues, don't know if they are related to your problems. Suggest you try 8.0c.

I gave you the "Import Camcorder Disc" directions. But you have not tried them?

I did the Import Camcorder Disc and yes it worked, thank you.

The clips played fine in Vegas, I have only rendered to MPEG-2 so far but I need a decoder to view it.

I will render to WMV to see if it still works but it's progress anyway.

As for burning DVD's, for best quality is MPEG-2 the norm?

Standard definition DVDs only support mpeg-2.

I viewed the WMV file and the audio was in sync. What I noticed is without any post-processing, just an import and render, the final version has a smoky haze to it, almost like there is a layer of fog...not real bad but definately not vivid color, the disc is sharp and colorful.

Another thing is when I add the clip to the timeline, at one point there is a plain white box where the video should be, maybe 8-10 sec long, after the render it's grey and the text in the box says "media offline"....however when you play the clip, there is video there, even when editing and the white box is there...plays fine.



As far as my current ver. 8.0b, figure the best thing is to update to 8.0c correct? What about 8.1, if so do I need ver c first or can I not or should not get 8.1?
