Pro titler query

Can't seem to find any way to put titles over a solid background (unlike the old version). Does that mean having to put a solid color track below the title?

I believe you are correct. I think I read this on another post where Spot posted a video of the titler in action before the release.

You can set the background for the just the text, not the whole window.

Yes that's what you need to do. Since titles are normally on an overlay track above the main video just lay the generated media on the video track.
