Problem creating a new project

When I create a new project by clicking Project>New, after specifying the properties, I specify a different folder to the default one. I always get an error 'Read only or invalid path. Please correct it.'. I click on OK and get another message 'The reason for the error could not be determined.'. If I accept the default path there is no error. If I just start a project then save it where I want there is no problem. Anyone any ideas?

Where is this new location? Is it in your C drive, an external hard drive or a network drive?

What happens when you create a new folder for your project instead of trying to store it in an existing one?

It's on a different partition on my only drive. The default location is
K:\Jack\Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 Projectsand saving it to this is ok. It's if I want to save it to a different location, say if I brouse to, say, K:\01 Video Projects\ then create a new folder under this one, the folder is created but when I click Ok I get the error message. I can only presume that it has something to do with permissions but as I'm the Administrator I can't understand why.
It's not a great problem because I can save the project wherever I want using the Save As command without any errors. I'd just like to specify all the project properties in one go instead of several steps.

Partitioning drives is a practice left over from the ancient days of FAT32 technology, Jack. These days it's more counter-productive than helpful.

So I don't know what exactly is going on, but it appears that the partition is where your problems lie. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Ok Steve. Thanks anyway. As I said, it's not such a big deal. I may just try putting my projects folder under K:\Jack and see if that works.

What flavor of winders are you running ? Can you (with your permissions) create a folder where you are trying to create a new project ? Are you trying to create a project at the top level of your drive or a sub folder (I ran into a program a while back that crashed if I tried to do something at the root level of the partition but anywhere below that was fine ... a "feature" :-) )

Jack,
You've got an antivirus software running (perhaps Kaspersky or McAfee) that is preventing you from doing what you want to do. Dump it.

That is my best guess.

Thanks musicvid. I have got McAfee. It came with my new PC and It runs for another year. You're probably right. I'll delve into McAfee's settings and see if I can fiddle it. If not, I can manage with it for another year, then I'll dump it and install AVG.

I've just tried the first method from the knowledgebase and it hasn't worked. It's probably because I moved My Documents to the K: partition when I partitioned my drive. As I mentioned before, it's no big deal. I'll just continue doing as I do now, change the properties and Save As.
