Problem creating a playable CD

I don’t know what I’m missing!!

I have followed the proscribed steps – Created the movie using Video Factory 2, rendered it to an “mpg” file, converted it using TMPGEnc, then using Easy CD Creator 5, created a CD.

Each time, using slightly different variations in an effort to find the problem, I get a CD with the following Subdirectories: CDDA, CDI, KARAOKE, MPEGAV, SEGMENT and VCD. No files in the first three subdirectories, 1 file in MPEGAV called Music01.dat – 65,331KB and four files in the VCD subdirectory, entries.vcd – 2KB, info.vcd – 2KB, lot.vcd – 64KB and psd.vcd – 1KB.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Ken

The .dat file is your video.

Are you trying to play it on your computer? If you're using Media Player, to have it find it, you have to click on FILE, then OPEN, then under FILE OF TYPE set to ALL FILES and it should show up.

If you're trying to play in a setup DVD player and you're using TMPGEnc be sure you select the proper template. I'll assume you have or Nero would complain.

If you are bypassing Video Factory to take advantage of some of TMPGEnc's post production features it makes sense to output as AVI from Video Factory to mantain quality. Don't worry about the 4GB limit. Just process each section in turn after they are produced. Once done, use the merge and cut tab under MPEG tools found under FILE to combine the various MPG files together.

Thanks for the quick response, WV

I know I can open the .dat file with Media Player and it plays just fine, the issue I don't understand is,

1) how do I make that a self running file using Easy CD Creator 5 so that I can play it on a PC

and

2)to make it a DVD readable format, I used the SuperVideoCD(NTSC).mcf template in TMPGEnc - then using Easy CD Creator, I used the "make a video CD" option and that's when I got the various subdirectories that I mentioned in my first message.

If you're asking how to make the video auto start from the CD, (I never tried) I think there is a how-to on the VCD Help Forum. I think you need to adjust the ini file.

AFAIK Easy CD Creator can't make a SVCD. I know you can with Nero 5.5. Again, then may be a how-to in the VCD Help Forum.
