Hi there

I've been reading in this forum abouth video capture card
to work with VV or VA.
I always see the same ansers: IEEE 1394 compatible dv
boards.
Well, I tested Matrox RT-2000 and Pinnacle DV-500 and they
don't work, so don't by them for know.
Can anyone tell me Names and models so I can make a choice
and stop spending money and time for nothing.

Michel,

First lets assume you're using Windows 98 or Win2k. The Vegas Video
capture program uses OHCI compliant 1394 and this is not available
using Windows NT.

Next, you'll need to find an OHCI compliant 1394 card. Make
sure that the packaging specifically states OHCI compliance. I've
been using a Western Digital 1394 card, which cost about $90.00 and
works quite well with Vegas Video.

The Pinnacle DV500 as well as the DPS Spark card are based on the
adaptec AHA-89xx card. As far as I know there are no OHCI drivers
available for this card. (I've used both of these cards with
Premiere under Windows NT. It's sucks that they don't work with
Windows 2000.) Who knows what the Matrox RT-2000 is based on, my
guess is that it's propriatary.

Finally it's anybodys guess on which source decks and cameras will
work with this OHCI standard. I've got a Panasonic AG-DV deck that
works fine but my Sony DHR-1000 deck does not respond to the deck
control commands. (One of the Sonic Foundry folks said that they
are looking at this problem. Stay tuned.)

Hope this Helps.
Hugh

Hugh:

Exactly what is the model # for this Panasonic AG-DV deck you refer
to!

My Sony DSR-20 DVCAM deck won't respond to machine control commands
over firewire either. Sony won't be writing any such OHCI driver they
tell me (want to sell their own proprietary NLE's I gather) and Adtech
(maker of my Pyro 1394 capture card) is not planning any support for
anything but mostly consumer camcorders.

Need to get DV in but must generate at least the rudimentary capture
lists that Vegas's Capture app. allow you to save.

SF: Will you be expanding this application's to allow for
re-digitising a list etc.???

Thanks, for any and all help,

Matt
