Problem installing Ignite Express

Len Kaufman wrote on 8/11/2017, 2:22 PM

Hi all. Saw Ignite Express mentioned in this forum. Signed on with HitFilms and downloaded Ignite Express Installer. Double clicked on the msi file, and essentially, it produces another copy of the same file in the download page. Clicking again and I'm in an endless loop of creating/clicking/creating file etc. Also tried right clicking and opening containing folder, clicked on the file there, and got same result: another copy of the msi file. I'm not new to the concept of downloading and installing programs and files, but this one has me flummoxed. I never get to the install sequence. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I would recommend clearing/deleting all of the History and Cookies from your web browser.
Make sure to delete all previous versions of the Ignite installer and then download fresh copy.
If this does not fix problem, post a message on the official Hitfilm Forum - they're pretty good over there at helping people out.

I did not have any problem installing Hitfilm Ignite, but I have had problems in the past with program downloads not behaving properly. Deleting my web browsers history and re-booting my computer, fixed the problem.

Hi Dr Zen....Thank you for your reply. I tried what you suggested, using a program called CCLEANER to delete history, etc. I rebooted, and same problem. I posted on the HitFilm/Ignite forum, and and received a response from the moderator, saying that is not normal, and to try downloading another copy of the file. I did that. Same result.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Hi Len
I don't know what the people at Hitfilm would say, but this is my next suggestion for you.
Once again, the solution below is based on previous experience of programs not installing properly.

I would also temporarily turn OFF your Virus Protector program.
If it is too aggressive, it can screw up program install files.

You need to do a deep removal of all mentions of Hitfilm on your computer.
Note I am on Windows 10.
Below are all the obvious FXHOME folders I know about. There may be more, but hopefully after removing all of them, you can get to install the program correctly.

1. Go to Programs and Features and un-install any Hitfilm programs and FX

2. Go to C:\Program Files\FXHOME - delete FXHOME folder

3. Turn on Hidden Items so you can see System Folders. This is how to do it in Windows 10.
If you are using Windows 8 or lower, go to Control Panel/File Explorer Options/View tab.

4. Go to C:\ProgramData\FXHOME - delete FXHOME folder

5. Go to C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\FXHOME - delete folder

6. Go to C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\FXHOME Helper - delete folder

7. Be very careful with this next step and only delete FXHOME folders!

Go to Windows Search box and type "regedit"
Select regedit from results and open Windows Registry

Delete all of the following folders:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FXHOME
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FXHOME

8. Re-run CCleaner and this time make sure to use the Registry Cleaner.

9. Re-boot computer (this is probably not necessary, but is always worth it).

10. Install Ignite Express.

Dr. Zen and others....I've solved the problem. 1st, let me mention that the Hit Film people tried valiantly, but didn't have a solution. Then, having tried pretty much everything else, I chanced upon the solution! Going to the downloaded MSI file in "downloads," instead of double clicking, like the directions directed, I right clicked, and chose "Microsoft Install." Worked like a charm. You wouldn't believe how much time I spent on this!

"Microsoft Install" vs 'Double-clicking'? 😕

What's the differences?

Set....When I double-clicked, the only result I got was another copy of the MSI file.Did this many times with same result. Like an endless loop. Even when the Internet was disconnected. When I clicked on "install with" and chose Microsoft Install, the program actually installed. I've never had this problem before, and I'd guess I've installed hundreds of programs.
