Hi,

I'm not sure this will help or not, but this is some basics you need to check before installing anything:

1- antivirus disable?
2- min. spec. required? RAM?
3- downloaded software free from error?
4- defrag Hdisk? scandisk hdisk?
5- latest OS service pack?
6- read readme for latest hardware issues?

...and to get a better help, please provide your detail system info.

tks

Thank you for your ideas!

However, they did not work. The antivirus was disabled. I did update the OS service pack and have tried several other options.

The computer I am using is a Gateway with an Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 1.9GHz
512MB RDRAM® 120GB 7200 RPM HD 20x min./48x max. CD-ROM drive

I am open to any other ideas. It is disappointing that Sonic Foundry doesn’t offer any assistance in 24 hours. Is thier service always this poor?

I may be an idea to do a search on installation probs as there are good solutions to be had. Once you sort things out you won't be disappointed with VF.

The forum is moderated, so if you're completely stuck someone may come in.

The xp SP1 has been reported at many forums to cause several glitches which people are troubleshooting.

Good luck.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that, have you tried searching the rest of the forums for installation?

I thought I have read somewhere also about installation problem as yours and the solutions is MS Windows Installer Ver. 2.

help is on the way, cheer up.

Thanks for the response. I tried a few different searches with no luck. This is the first time I have ever seen a program disappear every time it is opened. I guess I wait until SF decides to get back to me.

I've seen this style of problem before, though not with VF. Typicaly there's a problem such as a missing component so that the program can't even report the error. Have a look in the system and error logs, they could provide useful information. Running the VF app from Explorer is worth trying or failing that you could try running the VF app from a command prompt - it *MAY* give you a meaningful error message. Have you had a look at the shortcut itself? Right clicking on it and then selecting properties may show something.

Cheers

I do appreciate all of your ideas. Unfortunately, none of them worked. I ran the scan disk twice and nothing happened. Also defragged the drive and ran the program from the icon, Explorer, created new shortcuts and none worked.

I am disappointed that SF has never responded to my direct e-mail. If this company continues to runs it business this way, I will be surprised if it stays in business for the next couple of years. Time to find a new program!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks Andrew,

I did try reinstalling off the CD and re-downloaded the updated program three times. I uninstalled and reinstalled every way I could figure.

It is time to purchase a program from another company. One that tries to help within a reasonable time.

Thanks for your ideas.

MARs, if you're still there I think there's some mileage in trying to run the program from a dos prompt. If everything's ok it will run, so you should get some sort of error message - once we know what the system's objecting to we can offer some more focused advice!

Cheers

Hi,

Have you tried installing the CD or downloaded copy to another PC other than yours right now? (just to see that there is nothing wrong with your computer)

Other than that I guess your OS is 'allergic' to VF... try to get some 'medicine' from microsoft or VF at their mail support@sonicfoundry.com.

regards

Thanks for the ideas.

I did install this program on my other computer running Windows 98 and it worked other than being able to print to my mini DV camera.

VF has now contacted me (5 days later) and provided a couple of things I did not try. If it works, I will post it.

Thanks again.

MARs...I think you will be really happy with VF, once you start to play around with it (and get it to work on your computer).

You may have some computer issues right now, and I don't think it is the software, SF is known for its stability.

If you are still having trouble, post it here...there are plenty of people that are willing to give suggestions.

Mars - Keep The Faith. Get VF to work and you'll be amazed at what it can do.

I've used Studio7, VideoWave and had opportuniities to sit in on Adobe Premiere demos. Apart from RealTime rendering and editing that comes with Canopus and Matrox options, cut your teeth on VideoFactory.

Hey, I've had to hang on in there many times. Sometimes it was a hidden VF virtue - VF can be sometimes very shy in reavling its virtues. It's true!

For the past 6 months I've scoured the source of my Print TO Tape problems. ONly to find out it was the fan/s switching ON/OFF that were manifesting the problem - albeit a piece of "other" callout issues creating the problem in the first place.

Take it easy, stay with us - Hey you could very well have the same problem/s with an alternative package. Have you thought of that one?

Regards and best wishes,

Grazie

Hi Lars
you are probably real fed up by now, but have you tried going into the VF folder and double clicking on the VF exe file, instead of the shortcut in the program folder.
