Problem Loading a VEG file....

Jerfilm wrote on 5/21/2005, 6:56 AM
Working on a project, everything going fine, suddenly this morning when I try to load it, it gets to 8% and "And exception has occurred". When I look at the details of the stack dump (which is pretty much Greek to most of us) it occurred in the module mpegin.DLL. Presumeably there is something wrong with a clip or a still photo. Is there any way I can recover all this work since there seems to be no way to load it???? I loaded a previous project just to ensure that it is not a corrupt DLL file - and apparently it isn't.

Do you have autosave backups? Maybe try the previous version? Darryl

Previous version did the same thing. It was backed up just a couple of minutes before I backed up and quit.....

Pity that Vegas doesn't make multiple back up veg's like some programs do that you could go back to the last USEABLE version. I mean, whats a few hundred Kilobytes in the scheme of 200 gig hard drives?? And the loss of several days work?? Sony??

Someone else reported something similar about three weeks ago. Do a search in this forum, with the date filter set to 30 days and see if a solution was posted.

Re: saved vegs. Excaliber 4 has a wizard which you can put on your toolbar. You can identiy an emergency backup folder and save with a click. I have my regular saves on E and a duplicate on C. Just an FYI. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the idea. I looked back but the problem that person was having was a different error - his was not finding a clip in the project. This simply stops at 8% loaded and sez there was an error. No explanation except for the "Details" which shows the error in Modue "mpegin.DLL" - and perhaps if I could understand the stack dump, I would know more, but I don't......

I assume you have re-booted the computer and then tried again. If not, do that.

Have you tried loading other VEG files? If not, try loading a few others and then try again.

Sorry I don't have much else to offer. These are pretty weak suggestions ...

A wild suggestion.

Move the sources file for the project to some other place on your drive- just to force Vegas to bring up the "search for missing media" dialog when you try to open the veg file.

Once you have the "missing media" dialog open you can then point Vegas to each clip in your project (poit to the new place).... don't allow Vegas to "automatically find" any of the clips... do each one individually (hopefully you don't have hundreds of source files). This should allow you to locate the specific clip that causes the crash. Then - you may find that something has gone bad with one of the source files..

From the error you reported - it sounds like you are working with MPEG source files?
